An increasing number of youths are ting suicide to escapeschool violence in Korea. The Gyeonggi Provincial Government invited students to an open forum to seek solutions to school violence.

Soyeon (소연)a victim of school violencehas attempted suicide. Shenow receiving mental therapy, but still shows symptoms of severe anxiety at school.

A total of 16,000 people ted suicide in Korea last year alone, with Gyeonggi Province accounting for 20% of the national total. The suicide rate among youthsas high as 9 persons per every 100,000. Itcritical that effective measures be taken to prevent suicide among youths.

Gyeonggi Province organized a student forum to identify ways in which to prevent suicide among youths. School violencea major problem in many middlehigh schools in Korea,victims usually remain unnoticed as they fear repercussions should they come forward.

Gyeonggi Province announced comprehensive support programs for the homeless to help them endure the long winter.

1) Half of the Homeless Live on the Street
In total, there were 350 homeless individuals in Gyeonggi Province as of theof October. Half of them livesleep on the street.
2) Comprehensive Winter Homeless Support Programs
In order to prevent fatalities causedthe cold weatheropen fires among the homeless, Gyeonggi Province introduced comprehensive winter homeless support programs that will be implementedthe Homeless Risk Management Team.

Homeless individuals who refuse to enter care facilities will be taken care ofspecialists with the Homeless Risk Management Team; they will provide one-stop support rangingthe arrangement of hospital treatment to accommodation support. Some public organization buildingssocial welfare facilities will also be designated as emergency shelters for the homeless. The operation of temporary shelters in the cities of Suwon (수원), Seongnam (성남)Uijeongbu (의정부) will be expanded,an on-the-street consultation team will be mobilized.
