A new regulation on air conditioning was introduced in Gyeonggi Province. According to this new provincial ordinance, which took effect on July 1st, any commercial establishment that operates an air conditioning tem with the doors to its premises open will be fined up to KRW 3 million.

The indoor temperature mustbe kept lower than 25C insales establishments including department stores,not lower than 26C inofficelodging facilities. Energy consumptionair conditioning accounts for approximately 21% ofsummer electricity consumption in Korea.
In tandem with the introduction of the penalty tem for open air conditioning, Gyeonggi Province plans to implement an on-going public campaign for the reduction of energy consumption.

One out of every five commuters in Gyeonggi Province spends more than one hour on the road, which equates to 1.5 million commuters spending more than 1.5 million hours on the road every day.

Nine consultants are stationed at the center to provide financial consultation services.

Since opening last year, more than 1,200 consultations have been provideda total of KRW 2.9 billion has been made available in micro-financing.
Gyeonggi Province plans to expand the services of the People’s Financing Support Center to include one-stop consultationemergency relief services.

With the number of seniors living alone growing rapidly, Gyeonggi Province announced that it would formulate a comprehensive support policy that would benefitsuch seniors.

There are nearly 1.1 million senior residents in Gyeonggi Province, with 217,000 of them living alone. The number of solitary seniors has been growing rapidly89,000 in the year 2000,is expected to reach 480,000 in the year 2025.

1) G-Design Mark Certified Products Exhibition / Gyeonggi Human Resource Development Center (Suwon, July 10th)
