Title 1. ASE of Taiwan Invests KRW 1 Trillion in Paju Plant (0220-1)

Gyeonggi Province secured an investment of over KRW 1 trillionthe world’s largest semiconductor company. ASE Group of Taiwan agreed to invest in a semiconductor plant in Paju (파주) City, which will bring in the world’s most advanced semiconductor technology more than 2,000 new jobs.

ASE, a multinational company with headquarters in Taiwan, decided to expand its Korean operations which it began in 1999establishing a plant in Paju (파주) City. Announcing its new plant project, a company spokesperson said that ASE favored Gyeonggi Province over China despite aggressive Chinese proposals with promises of tax benefitsother incentives because Gyeonggi Province, already a home to world-class semiconductor giants SamsungHynix, has excellent infrastructure in technologymarketing as well as quality human resources.

“Korea has very high standard manpower. We currently have 2,500 employees, but we will gradually increase the number up to 8,000 over the next eight years.”
3) 22,000 M2 Area Production Line to Complete2020
According to the investment agreement, ASE will construct additional production lines in two plant buildings in phases on a 22,000 m2 site.

Youngsters are intent on creating their own strawberry bread shapes,will remember this experience for a long time.
4) 130 Experiential Farms in Gyeonggi Province
There are 130 experiential farms in Gyeonggi Province, most of which are crowded during weekends with families, childrenadults. For children, in particular, experiential farms are excellent places to study nature,they also provide a valuable opportunity to learn about farming.

While the Korea International Boat Show, which Gyeonggi residents proudly call the Gyeonggi International Boat Show,still 3 months away, preparations for a successful event are now in full swing.

This international boat show, now marking its 5th year, has become a major event in the global marine leisure industry.
1) Organization Headquarters Open
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government announced that it has already completed the appointment of the organization tee members as well as contractorssent out invitations on schedule.
2) Completion of Second Marina at Jeongok Port
Since the construction of the second marina at Jeongok (전곡) Port has now been completed, this year’s international boat show will feature a wider variety of exhibitsevents than in previous years. The indoor exhibition hall will be linked to outdoor exhibitions to provide a dynamic display of marine sports equipment
3) Marine Leisure Experience Programs
There will also be a variety of marine leisuresports experience programs such as dinghy sailingscuba diving.
Last year, the Korea International Boat Show became a member of the International Federation of Boat Show Organizers,secured international orders equivalent to KRW 63 billion.
Title 4. Expansion of Gyeonggi Juvenile New Deal Project (0221-3)

Gyeonggi Province announced that it will implement an expanded Juvenile New Deal Project so as to help vocational high school graduates find employment. The provincial government also plans to implement diverse means to increase the employment rate among high school graduates.

1) Expansion of Juvenile New Deal Project for Vocational High School Graduates
Gyeonggi Province will implement the Gyeonggi Juvenile New Deal Project more extensively this year. This project was originally devised to provide vocational high school graduates with customized employment support services. Among the recipients of the services of the Juvenile New Deal Project in 2011, 247 have successfully found employment, equating to an 83% success rate.
2) Applications for Participation in Juvenile New Deal Project (until February 24th)
The number of vocational high schools increased11 last year to 18 this year,the number of graduates will be approximately 500, nearly a twofold increase compared with last year.

“This year, consultants will be dispatched to schools to provide advice on various topics such as self-appraisals, setting employment targets,employment application techniques. They will also teach parentsteachers how to help students with employment searches.”
Gyeonggi Provincealso working to devise various meanswhich to improve the employment rate among high school graduates.

The provincial government will cooperate with organizations in various fields to provide high school graduates with support for self-development, recruit high school graduates for public officesimplement juvenile employment support projects.
While university degrees are overwhelmingly emphasized in the Korean employment market, the outcome of the employment support policies of Gyeonggi Province for high school graduates remains to be seen.
Title 5. Habitual Hospital Visitors (0222-1)

According to statistics, the number of individuals who visit hospitals more than 100 times a yearcontinuously on the rise in Gyeonggi Province. Authorities are seeking to control habitual hospital visits.

1) Jeong Sam-deuk / Shiheung City
75 year-old Jeong Sam-deuk (정삼득) of Shiheung (시흥) City has recently became the subject of medical benefit controlunderwent a consultation procedure because he was found to be over-dependent on hospital services. He has been visiting hospitals more than five days a weektaking more than five different medicines every day.

When a senior citizen on medical benefits visits a hospital as frequently as Jeong (정) does, the annual medical costs will amount to more than KRW 6 million, the patient pays virtually nothing. Negligible medical billsa lack of knowledge about the hazards of habitual medicine use lead many people to routinely visit hospitals. After three months of consultation, Jeong (정)now reluctant to go to a hospital.

“I don’t go to the hospital more than twice a week now. I think I will visit the hospital less as I follow the advice of the city person.”
3) 4,200 Hospital Over-s under Intensive Control60 Medical Benefit Controllers
There were a total of 4,200 habitual hospital s identified in Gyeonggi Province alone last year. After they were managed60 medical benefit controllers, their total medical costs this year were reducedmore than KRW 5 billion.

The total medical costs paidGyeonggi Province for these hospital over-s was as much as KRW 30.8 billion, but the amount was reduced to KRW 25 billion this year. However,the medical benefit controllers in the 31 citiescounties of Gyeonggi Province were temporary employees of the provincial government,their tenuous relationships with patients posed another problem.

“There are some medically ignorant individuals who visit hospitals out of mere habit. The medical benefit controllers of citiescounties are helping them to correct their behaviorproviding them with educationconsultation services.”
Gyeonggi Province will deploy more medical benefit controllers this year to help medical beneficiaries manage their health more effectivelyto reduce unnecessary expenditures.
Title 6. Alternative Schools for Unmarried Mothers (0223-1)

Many unmarried mothers are young, but they find it difficult to return to school because theyonly have to rear their children but also earn a livelihood. However, thanks to alternative schools for unmarried mothers, therehope for them to continue their studies.

Thisa graduation ceremony at an alternative school in Pyeongtaek (평택) City. Whatdifferent about this graduation ceremonythat the graduates are unmarried mothers. Some are carrying babies in their arms. They became mothers they were in their teens,had to leave school to rear their children. But they returned to schoolnow proudly receive their diplomas. This graduationmuch more meaningful for them,their hearts are full of emotion.

“(Having become familiarized with study) I became more interested in searching for basic knowledgecollecting information about private institutes to prepare myself for entering society.”
At first, Kim didknow how to live, but her hope was rekindled as she began to attend classes of the alternative school at a welfare facility for unmarried mothers.

“I was in a dire situationI almost gave up everything. I felt hopeless even when I first came here. Butadapted to life herereceived psychological treatment… (I began to change)… At this moment, I am deeply grateful.”

This alternative school, the first of its kind in Korea,supportedGyeonggi Province to enable unmarried mothers to acquire regular diplomas. Any middle school or high school student who left school due to pregnancyaccepted at this school.

“Unmarried mothers are helpednursing assistants in rearing their children so as to allow them to continue their studies. The provincial government provides these young mothers with every support they need to live without losing hope.”
Young unmarried mothers enrolled this alternative school will continue to pursue their dreams,someday those dreams will come true.
