Gyeonggi Province signed a FriendshipCooperation Agreement with Jiangsu Province, an economic center of China,thus entered into an amicablecollaborative relationship with Jiangsu Province.

With the inclusion of Jiangsu Province in its official ties with Chinese provinces, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government has now completed a cooperative network withthe major regions on the east coast of China.
1) MOU between Gyeonggi Province & Jiangsu Province / Jiangsu Province (August 26th)
The delegates of Gyeonggi Province visited Jiangsu during their 3-day mission in China to conclude an FriendshipCooperation Agreement. The two provinces agreed to closely cooperateundertake bilateral exchanges in the fields of commerce, sciencetechnology,tourism.
2) 6th Tie with Chinese Province
With the signing of this agreement, Jiangsu Province became the 6th region in China to enter into cooperative relations with Gyeonggi Province following the provinces of Guangdong, Liaoning, ShandongHebeiTianjin City.
3) Completion of Pan Yellow Sea Economic Cooperation Network
This agreement also signifies the completion of a cooperative networkGyeonggi Province that incorporatesthe major regions on the east coast of China, which also, in effect,the completion of pan-Yellow Sea economic ties between the two countries. Since Jiangsu Province has a rapidly growing economy with average annual growth of 13.5%, the cooperative agreement between these two provincesexpected to accelerate economic cooperation activities across the Yellow Sea.

The commemoration ceremony for preliminary operation of the Shihwa (시화) Lake Tidal Power Plant, whichbeing built onof the tidal embankment of Shihwa (시화) Lake, was held last week. Itthe first tidal power plant in Korea.
2) Operation Start-up in December
Costing KRW 496 billion, the construction of this power plant began in December of 2004is expected to be completed in December this year after seven years of construction work.
3) Power Generation Capacity of 254,000 kW
The power generation capacity of the Shihwa (시화) Lake Tidal Power Plant254,000 kW, the largest of its kind in the world.
4) Sufficient for Use500,000 Population
The annual total power generation of the Shihwa (시화) Plant will be 552 million kilowatt-hours, which1.6 times greater than the capacity of the Soyang (소양) Dam Power Plantenough to supply electricity to half a million people. This plant will also be the power house for the low carbon, green growth of Korea.
5) Commemoration Ceremony for Preliminary Operation (August 29th)
In advance of full operation in December, the Shihwa (시화) Lake Tidal Power Plant began preliminary operation following the ceremony held at the plant. Also present at the ceremony was Korean President Lee Myeong-bak (이명박), who said that the start-up of this power plant marks a turning point in the environmental conservation history of mankind.

Gyeonggi Province has been operating a Public-type Nursery Home Program to address increasing demand among parents for public-type nurseries. An additional 70 childcare houses were designated as Public-type Nursery HomesGyeonggi Province.

With the additional designations, there are now a total of 138 Public-type Nursery Homes operating in Gyeonggi Province. The nursery feesteacher salaries of the private childcare homes are adjusted to the levels of public nursery homes once the facilities are designated as Public Nursery Homes.
3) Savings of Childcare Expenses of Parents
Since the operation of the Public-type Nursery HomessupportedsupervisedGyeonggi Province, parents can reduce monthly nursery feesKRW 76,000 to 78,000 a month,the monthly salary of teachersraised to approximately KRW 1.5 million

The mobile Public Service Office of Gyeonggi Province on a subway car was refurbished with new decor. The interior of this office has been transformed into a simulated forest. Our reporter was there.

The 10th anniversary ceremony of the Gyeonggi Digital Contents Agency was held at the Techno Park in Bucheon (부천) City last week. The Gyeonggi Digital Contents Agency was established in 2001 in accordance with the Gyeonggi Province Ordinance on the Promotion of the Cultural Contents Industry.
2) Growth of Digital Contents Industry Led4 Clusters
This agency has been the driving force behind the growth of the digital contents industry in Gyeonggi Province, primarily in the cities of Seongnam (성남), Goyang (고양), Bucheon (부천)Paju (파주)over 1,000 companies form industrial clusters.
3) Declaration of a New Vision
During the 10th anniversary ceremony, a new vision for the next decade was d. The vision statements were chosen to promote the growth of the digital contents industry new opportunities in the smart society of the future.
4) “A Hen out of the Front Yard”
The anniversary ceremony was followeda celebration of the success of the animated film, “A Hen out of the Front Yard”. The production of this animated film was fundedthe Legend Creation Project, a joint support project of Gyeonggi Provincethe Digital Contents Agency.

“A Hen out of the Front Yard”, was chosen for the Legend Creation Project Investment in 2008became a huge success,recorded box-office numbers of 1.5 million.
