Most students in Korea attend at least one private education institute before entering university. Even during vacation. The cost of private education, however, can be too high for the children of families in low-income brackets. Now there are private education institutes in Gyeonggi Province that provide courses free of charge for financially disadvantaged students.

Only a few months ago, attending a private education course was unthinkable to Lee, who had to spend vacations at home since his parents couldsupport outside activities for him. 134 private education institutes are participating in this support program. The private institutes provide educational courses to students in low-income bracket families for free, the Community Chest pays the institutes 50% of the fees as a donation.

A total of 180 students have benefitedthis support, accounting for KRW 50 million in donationsthe Community Chest.

“We have an agreement with the Seongnam (성남) City Private Education Institutes Association for the support of children in low-income bracketsgive them donations to cover 50% of the education fees.”
This private-public cooperation model may be one of the alternative solutions to the problem of polarization in education.

The Gwangju Sewage Treatment Plant, which was temporarily out of operation due to recent torrential rains, has resumed normal operations after emergency restoration. This plant plays a crucial role in preventing contaminated sewageflowing into the Paldang (팔당) watershed.

Restoration work had originally been scheduled for a one-month period, but the dedicated efforts of workersthe public, privatemilitary sectors to protect the Paldang (팔당) watershed made it possible to restart operations 10 days earlier than scheduled.
