The airfilled with the noise of fork lifts, trucksother heavy equipment busily engaged in flood relief work. A seemingly endless quantity of debrisscatteredover the site. After no less than 1,116mm of rain fell during a three-day periodAugust 26th, the waters of Gyeongan (경안) CreekGonjiam (곤지암) Creek overflowed into residential areas, flooding 197 housesa hospitaldamaging 76 acres of farm land in this area of Gwangju (광주) City.

3) Flood Relief Work
Together with soldiersvolunteers, officials of Gyeonggi Province have been dispatched to major disaster sites in six citiescounties for flood relief work. Some work with spadesothers simply use their bare hands to remove soildebrishouses.

Gyeonggi Province opened an emergency disaster control center to monitor the state of water flowdamage in real time.

2) Emergency Relief of KRW 3.5 Billion1,977 Relief Kits
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government released emergency relief of KRW 3.5 billiondistributed an additional 1,977 relief kits on July 31st.

2) 8 Dead1542 Houses Flooded in Dongducheon City
Having suffered the loss of 6 livesthe flooding of 1,524 houses, Dongducheon (동두천) City requested that the provincial government the city a Special Disaster Area.
3) Meeting on Flood Disaster Countermeasures

Senior officials of Gyeonggi Province including Governor Kim Moon-soo (김문수) visited the flood-stricken areas in Dongducheon (동두천) Cityinvestigated damages. The provincial government plans to provide active support to areas damagedflooding for priority restoration.
Title 4. Living Expense Support for Flood Sufferers (0803-1)

Many people lost their homes due to the record 3-day downpour. Gyeonggi Province reacted swiftlyproviding living expense support to those who have to use temporary accommodation until their homes are restored.

Many flood-stricken residents can do nothing but stare at their homes as their roomsliving quarters are filled with filthy flood water. They survived the worst thanks to rescue workers, but they are virtually homeless nowhave to find temporary accommodations until their homes become livable again.
1) 11,000 Resident in 5,000 Families Suffered Flood Damage
More than 11,000 residents in 5,000 families of Gyeonggi Province were left temporarily or completely homelessrecent torrential rains.
2) Gyeonggi Province Provides Accommodation & Living Expense Support
Gyeonggi Province announced that it would mobilize the Muhandolbom (무한돌봄) Welfare Fund to provide families whose houses were damagedflooding with a prescribed amount of support for accommodationliving expenses for one month.

The subjects of this support will be limited to families in low-income brackets. The amount of support will be between KRW 202,000KRW 534,000 for a 4-person family.

“At the timethis, the Muhandolbom service will be extended to those families in critical situations,lost homes due to fire or a natural disaster.”
For those whose home restoration iscomplete after one month, Gyeonggi Province also plans to provide additional supportallowing them to use welfare facilities for seniors or individuals with physical disabilitiesproviding home restoration support.

“Up to KRW 2 million will be granted per household to help restore wallpaperflooring.”
The Muhandolbom (무한돌봄) Welfare Service of Gyeonggi Province has provided support for a total of 55,000 households in critical situations over the past 32 months. Itnow extending aid to families who lost their homes during the unprecedented rainfall.

Word has spread among job seekers about this project. In response to the large number of requests for the expansion of this program, itnow being offered nationwide.

Unprecedented torrential rain in the central region of the Korean Peninsula left painful wounds in Gyeonggi Province. But healing has already begun as emergency relief pours ineverywhere to help flood victims return to their normal lives.
