The effects of the social contribution activitiesprivate enterprises will be enhanced such activities are conducted in tandem with institutional welfare policies. Family Mart, one of the leading convenience store chains in Korea, sets the exampleimplementing a new-concept welfare project in collaboration with Gyeonggi Province.

The meticulous care with which she inspects delivered goodsstocks shelves exudes an air of a seasoned veteran with 20 years of experience in the production industry30 years as a housewife. These seniors are happy that they can still work at their age.

3) Gyeonggi ProvinceFamily Mart signed Happiness Sharing Project MOU (May 17th)
The Happiness Sharing Project MOU between Gyeonggi ProvinceFamily Mart made it possible for seniors to find employment.
In collaboration with Family Mart, one of the leading convenience store chains in Korea, Gyeonggi Province launched a new-concept welfare project that serves the multiple purposes of providing welfare, employmenteconomic opportunities. As a pilot case of this project, Family Mart has provided employment for seniors at a number of their chain stores in Gyeonggi Province since last year. This project will now be fully implemented at over 1200 stores within the province

This MOU also covers a support plan for North Korean defectors in the opening of new chain outlets, the supply of stock itemsdistribution centers to underprivileged resident groups through a food bank,the sales of local specialty items to these convenience stores.

“We will endeavor to expand the employment of seniors to provide them with new opportunities to enjoy independent lives. We also plan to actively participate in the school meal project.”
The Happiness Sharing Project of Gyeonggi ProvinceFamily Martcertainly an ambitious project for serving multiple purposes in the areas of welfare, employmenteconomy, but hopes are high for the success of the project.

The construction of Gyeonggi’s Province GTX express railroad, whichscheduled tonext year,expected to receive a major boost since the Korea Rail Network Authority agreed to provide support for the early completion of GTX construction.

Gyeonggi Provincethe Korea Rail Network Authority agreed to cooperate for the early completion of GTX constructionthe opening of the Suseo (수서)-Pyeongtaek (평택) line of KTX2014. Gyeonggi Province’s GTX project, whicha revolutionary transportation solution for the Korean capital region, now has strongexperienced supportthe national corporation that specializes in railroad construction.

“There are impending railroad-related projects in Gyeonggi Province such as the Suseo-Pyeongtaek line project of KTX, the GTX project of Gyeonggi Provincethe station area development projects. This agreement will facilitate the exchange of humantechnical resources for the implementation of these projects,…”
Both Gyeonggi Provincethe Korea Rail Network Authority will benefitthis agreement in the effectivetimely implementation of railroad construction projects.

This past April, the GTX project was approvedthe central government for inclusion in the second National Railroad Network Plan. Construction of the GTX lines will commence sometime next year after the deliberation of private company investment plansthe ion of priority companies for negotiation.

Dongguk (동국) University opened a bio-medical campus in the Ilsan (일산) area of Goyang (고양) City. Thisthe first new campus to be opened as the result of promotion effortsGyeonggi Province for the establishment of universities in the northern part of the province.

1) Dongguk University Bio-medical Campus Opening Ceremony, Goyang City (May 19th)
Dongguk (동국) University opened a new campus in Ilsan-dong-gu (일산동구) of Goyang (고양) City. This campus was established as the foundation for Dongguk (동국) University’s emergence as a major high education institution in the northern part of Gyeonggi Province. This combined bio-medical campus, located in Shiksa-dong (식사동) in Goyang (고양) City, houses a five-story Lecture Room Complex, which was completed with support of KRW 1.5 billion eachGyeonggi ProvinceGoyang (고양) City. Construction of the Pharmacy Department Building, with a total floor area of 220,000 square meters,also scheduled for completion in August this year.
2) Establishment of a Medical Hub2020
Dongguk University plans to complete the construction of a comprehensive bio-medical high education complex, including a medical schoolschool of oriental medicine as well as a university hospitalclinical trial center, on a 169,000 square meter site in Shiksa-dong (식사동)2020. .
3) Construction of Medical Complex Spurs Local Development
The opening of the bio-medical campus of Dongguk (동국) University also has social implications such as contributing to local developmentproviding momentum for the implementation of the provincial policy to induce the establishment of universities in the northern part of Gyeonggi Province.
4) Gyeonggi Province Expects Opening of 4 to 5 Universities in Northern Gyeonggi Province2015
Startingthis Dongguk (동국) University campus, four to five more universities are expected to open in the northern part of Gyeonggi Province, according to the provincial government.

1) Joint Shipment of Anti-Malarial SuppliesGyeonggi ProvinceIncheon City / Imjingak, Paju City (May 23th)
Trucks are fully loaded with North Korea-bound cargo. This cargo, which fills three 25-ton trucks to capacity, contains anti-malarial supplies consisting of 1,500 kg of mosquito larvicide95,000 packs of mosquito repellent as well as insect-proof nets; the total value amounts to KRW 137 million. These trucks will cross the border through the Dorasan (도라산) Inter-Korean Transit Officethe supplies will be delivered to the residents of Gaeseong (개성)Hwanghae (황해) Province in North Korea.
2) First Support Delivery to North KoreaLocal Government Since Yeongpyeong Island Bombardment
Shipment of these anti-malarial supplies to North Koreathe first such delivery to North Koreaa local government since the North Korean bombardment of Yeongpyeong (연평) Island last November. .
3) Number of Malaria Patients Rose Since 2009
Malaria in South Koreacommonly carriedmosquitoesNorth Korea. The occurrence of malaria had been declining up to 2008, but has been increasing since 2009. Gyeonggi Province hopes to achieve malaria control in both Koreasproviding anti-malarial supplies to North Korea.

5) Agreement on Inter-Korean Joint Implementation of Disease Prevention Project in 2008
In 2007, Gyeonggi Province proposed the joint implementation of the Disease Prevention Project to North Koreasuccessfully concluded an Inter-Korean Disease Prevention Project Agreement in 2008.
Gyeonggi Province will provide full anti-malarial support to North Korea based on the agreement,this initial delivery of anti-malarial supplies will be followedsubsequent shipments including malaria diagnosis equipment, more insect-proof netsmalaria prevention medicine for pregnant women.
Title 5. Part-time Employment Support for University Students (0524-2)

Average university tuition has been rising steadily,is now approaching KRW 10 million a year, posing an overly heavy burden for most students. Gyeonggi Province decided to alleviate the financial burden confronting university studentsproviding them with a variety of support.

Seong Giwon (성기원)a 25-year old university student. He has been working hard at school during the dayat his job in the evening5 to 12 pm for the past three years. He couldn’t ask his parents to support his educational expenses, which are well over KRW 10 million a year. It waseasy for him to keep up with classes because he had to work long hours to support himself.

Through agreements with universitiescorporations, Gyeonggi Province plans to introduce a Student Employment System through which the provincial government provides tuition support for students who work at participating companies during weekendsvacations,participating universities grant credits based on the hours of work.
4) Support of KRW500,000 Per Semester for Students in Low Income Brackets
Gyeonggi Province also plans to provide support of KRW 500,000 per semester for 5,000 university studentslow-income brackets who display good academic performance.
5) Employment-Reserved Educational Support
Employment-reserved Educational Support will also be introduced, through which a university provides education on special subjects such as construction, mechanicrical engineering as requestedcompanies on guaranteed-employment basis.

All higher officials of level four or above in Gyeonggi Province received special education for the improvement of morality.
2) Creation of Clean Society
This special education was provided for the purpose of nurturing a high level of moralitya self-sustained resolution for the eradication of corruption among public officials so as to cleantransparent public offices.

The Public Relations Official of the Anti-corruptionCivil Rights Commission of Korea, Kim Deok-man (김덕만), a guest lecturer, spoke on the topic of “FairCorruption-free Society”

After the program, the participating officials adopted an “Anti-corruptionMorality Resolution”renewed their resolution to eradicate corruptionto maintain morality.

6) Measures for Improvement of Public Officials Morality
Gyeonggi Province has been endeavoring to improve morality among public officials through a variety of measures such as the operation of the Morality Mileage System, the evaluation of the morality level of administrative officials,the enactment of the Morality Awards.
7) Education Plan for Level 5 or Lower Officials
Gyeonggi Province also plans to provide a similar morality education program forother officials of level 5 or lower so as to absolutely transparent provincial offices.
Title 7. New Rose Breed for Added Income of Farmers

For the first time in Korea, the Gyeonggi Province Agricultural ResearchExtension Services, or GARES, developed new rose varieties that produce two-colored flowers. These new local rose breeds are expected to become strong competitors with imported breeds that account for most rose production in Korea.

Unlike ordinary rose plants, these new breeds dohave thorns,the stems are thickermore resilient, positive attributes for easy harvesting, packagingdistribution.

4) Ornamental Value of “Venus” Breed
Another new breed, “Venus”, also has dual colors, but it has light pinkgreenish colors, making it ideal for ornamental use. The roseone of the most popular flowers in the Korean floricultural industry because of its characteristic beauty.
5) Royalty Payment for Imported Breeds
Among more than 100 varieties of rose that are grown in Korea, only 10 were developed locally. So, rose growers have had to pay a large sum in royalties each year.
6) Overseas Marketing of Domestic Breeds
GARES plans to develop overseas markets in CentralSouth America as well as local markets for these new rose breeds.
