1. Inauguration of Malaria Prevention Corps

Malaria in Korea mainly occurs in northern border areas of Gyeonggi Province. The Epidemic Prevention Corps, consisting of combined groupsthe military, the provincial governmentprovincial residents, was inaugurated with a mandate for the preventionearly elimination of malaria. The provincial government will also provide support of KRW 1 billion to the South-North Joint Epidemic Prevention Project so as to minimize the occurrence of malaria in border areas.

2. Jeongok Prehistory Museum Opens

Then a prehistory museum that opened in Jeongok -ri (전곡리) in Gyeonggi Province, one of the world’s major prehistoric sites,a place that cannot be missed. Meet prehistoric men who roamed the Korean Peninsula 300,000 years ago at the Jeongok Prehistory Museum.

This new museumlocated in Jeongok-ri,Old Stone Age relics were discovered in abundance for the first time in East Asia. The exterior of the museum building resembles a spaceship, imparting the feeling of entering a time machine to travel to the prehistoric age. The interior was designed to simulate a large cave with low ceilingscurved passages.

One of the themes, which this museum adopted in its approach to the prehistoric scenes,the presentation of the evolution of hominids throughout the world dating as far back as seven million years ago.

Meticulously reconstructed prehistoric hominidsToumai in Africa to Mandalian of North Korea vividly represent the evolution of mankind over millions of years.

To celebrate its opening, the Jeongok Prehistory Museum plans to hold other exhibitions including ‘The Origin of Music Exhibition” introducing ancient musical instrumentsNetherlands; this will run until theof October. 3. Full Operation of Seok Haegyun Project Begins

Gyeonggi Province began full operation of the “Captain Seok Hae-gyun (석해균) Project” for the emergency transport of severe trauma patients. Our reporter was at the scene of the first rescue operationa helicopter at the site of a highway accident.

4. Employment Exhibition for Individuals with Disabilities

An employment exhibition for individuals with disabilities was held, during which 190 jobs in diverse work areas were offered. A variety of support services were also provided during the exhibition to help job applicants.

For individuals with disabilities, writing resumes for job interviews maybe easy. But they can rely on volunteer service workers to help them.

Volunteer service workersonly help in writing resumes on behalf of job applicants, but also provide whatever assistance the applicants may need. Applicants who have hearing difficulties can even use the sign language interpretation service.

51 companies participated in this employment exhibition to recruit a total of 190 personnel in the areas of production, consultingoffice work. Among these companies, two are officially recognized as Standard Worksites for the Disabled.

The Standard Worksites for the Disabled are enterprises specifically establisheda parent company to employ only individuals with disabilities. Any employment undertakenthe enterprisealso recognized as employmentthe parent company,the parent companythen entitled to prescribed supportthe Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled.

Employment positions for individuals with disabilities will be increased considerably in public offices as well since Gyeonggi Province plans to increase the employment rate of the disabledthe statutory 3% to 4%2014.

There are more than 50,000 residents with registered disabilities in Gyeonggi Province. Finding employment will provide them with opportunities to prove their capabilitiesrevitalize their lives.

5. Bukhansan Doolegil

As the climate becomes warmer, more people hike mountain trails during weekends. Bukhansan (북한산)one of the most popular mountains since itlocated just on the outskirts of Seoul. The 63 kilometer Doolegil (둘레길), a circular trail of Bukhansan (북한산), will open in June.

Bukhansan (북한산), which used be called Samgaksan(삼각산), a triangular mountain,visitedten thousand climbers a year. These climbers often leave the established trailsventure into the forest, creating a numerous sub-trails.

These sub-trails have caused major concern regarding the safety of the ecotem,so Gyeonggi Provincethe Korean National Park Service joined together to the Bukhansan Doolegil (북한산 둘레길), a circular trail around the mountain.

44 kilometers of the Bukhansan Doolegil (북한산 둘레길) already opened last year. Additional sections totaling 26 kilometers will also open in June, spanning the cities of Goyang (고양), Yangju (양주)Uijeongbu (의정부). These sections will consist of 20 theme trails between Songchu Maulgil (송추마을길)Sanneomigil (산너미길).

6. Pontoon Bridge between SemiwonDumulmeori

Semiwon (세미원)Dumulmeori (두물머리) in Yangpeong (양평) County are prized tourist attractions in Gyeonggi Province with beautiful lotus pondsaquatic scenes. A proposal has been made for the installation of a pontoon bridge connecting these two very close but mutually inaccessible sites of extreme beauty.

A proposal was made for the construction of a pontoon bridge between Dumulmeori (두물머리)Semiwon (세미원), two outstanding tourist attractions of Yangpeong (양평) County in Gyeonggi Province, with the assertion that the bridge will also improve the ecological value of the sites.

7. Reduction of Greenhouse Gases at Home

Gyeonggi Province announced that it will mobilize Green Home Consultants to reduce greenhouse gas emissionshouseholds. Green Home Consultants will visit homes that wish to reduce greenhouse gas emissionsprovide an analysis of energy use as well as recommendations for the efficient use of energy.

By implementing this program, Gyeonggi Province hopes to achieve a considerable reduction in the amount of greenhouse gas emittedthe non-industrial sector, which accounts for 40% of total national greenhouse gas emissions.

The provincial government aims to provide the Green Home Consultant service to 1,000 homes this year. Applications for the service can be submittedcontacting the Gyeonggi Call Center at 120 or through the homepage of Gyeonggi Province.
