Muhandolbom(무한돌봄), whicha unique welfare service program of Gyeonggi Province, received contributionsprivate companies. The companies donated free online classesfood for usefamilies in need.

Students inrecipientfamilies of the Muhandolbom(무한돌봄) welfare service who are preparing for university entrance but unable to use private educational institutes due to economic difficultieswill be allowed to registerfor online classes free of chargeprovided with supplies.
Anymobi, a company specializing in online education,Ace Food Catering, arepresentative society-conscious company in the province, signed an MOU with Gyeonggi Province to provide educationalfood support to provincial residents in lowincome brackets.
Under this MOU, Anymobi will allow more than a thousand studentsrecipient families of the Muhandolbom(무한돌봄) welfare service to participate in online classes free of charge for six months. The total value of this contribution amounts to KRW 440 million.
Each student whoeligible for free online classes will be exemptedregistration fees of up to KRW 440,000. Studentsfamilies in low income brackets can now access more educational opportunities.
Ace Food Catering, whichone of the representative society-conscious companies in Gyeonggi Province, also participated in the Muhandolbom(무한돌봄) welfare service.
Ace Food Cateringplans to supply chicken to recipient families of the Muhandolbom(무한돌봄) welfare service four times annually over a span of three years.The total value of this contribution amounts toKRW 100 million per year.
Gyeonggi Province also launched a donation campaign for Muhandolbom(무한돌봄) service recipients through the Happy Bean pages of Naver, one of the largest portal sites in Korea, so as to provide the public with an opportunity to help neighbors in need. Such increasing participationthe private sector in the Muhandolbom(무한돌봄) welfare service program will hopefully help advance donation as a social custom.
2: Gyeonggi Delegation MovesUSA to Japan

A Gyeonggi delegation visited Japan on November 29th for a two-day visitand succeeded in inducing investmentsthree companies worth a total of USD 34.5 million. Itan impressive achievement considering that it was donelong after the bombardment ofYeonpyeong(연평) IslandNorth Korea, an event that may have otherwise had an adverse effect on foreign investment.

The delegationGyeonggi Province once again successfully induced foreign investment, this timeJapanese companies. On the first day of the visit, the delegation met with E-Material of the Asahi Kasei Group, which has a 40% share of the global secondary battery market,signed an MOU for an investment of USD 10 million.This was followedtwo more MOUs with TDKSanritsu.
Following an MOU with E-Material of Asahi Kasei, TDK also agreed to invest USD13.5 million in the construction of a ferrite core plant; Sanritsu will invest USD11 million. A total of USD34.5 million will be investedJapanese companies in the construction of new facilities in the Hyeongok(현곡) andHansan(한산) industrial complexes.
What made this achievement especiallysignificantthe fact thatthree of thecompanies that decided to establish production bases in Korea are major international manufacturers ofkey components for electronics, LCD monitorssecondary batteries.
Beginning with a visit to the United States in September last year, Gyeonggi has realized tremendous success in inducing foreign investment. The Gyeonggi Provincial Government has secured a total of USD 343 million in foreign investment during its current term,is continuing to work for more.
3: Successful Society-Conscious Companies in Gyeonggi Province

Successful cases of society-conscious companies werejointly recognizedGyeonggi Province, the Ministry of EmploymentLabor, Incheon(인천) Metropolitan CityGangwon(강원) Province. The Yongin(용인) Rehabilitation Center received thetitle of an excellent society-conscious company in Gyeonggi Province.

The products of 110 companies in Gyeonggi Province that help those in needproviding jobs were brought together for a competition.
The society-conscious companies’ contest, in which success stories competed, was held so as to promote the establishment of society-conscious companies.
In this event, the Yongin(용인) Rehabilitation Center with its affiliated rehabilitation workshops was nominated as a an excellent society-conscious organization in Gyeonggi Province.
The Yongin(용인) Rehabilitation Center has 16 employees with disabilities among its total workforce of 20. This center has been producing volume-rate garbage bags since 2000its sales are continuously growing.
In 2009, this center also opened the Cookie Tree Workshop to produce hand-made cookiescakes using locally produced wheat floursupplies them to the shop in Yongin(용인) City Hall.
The center has achieved sales of KRW970 million as of November this year, which represents 20% growth compared with the same period last year.
The reason for the recognition of theYongin(용인) Rehabilitation Center as an excellent society-conscious organization was because individuals with disabilitiescomprise 80% of its total workforcethe company actively works with a public office for sales.
Gyeonggi Provincecurrently implementing promotional plans for society-conscious companies that are willing to adapt to local needs.
Officesaffiliated organizations of Gyeonggi Province set up ties with 110 society-conscious companies in the province so as to provide them with marketingother supports.
4:Merchants in Osan Market BenefitChildrens’Anshim School(1207-1)

The Children’sAnshim(안심) Schoolan after-school childcare tem for working parents in low income brackets. When an Anshim(안심) School opened in one traditional marketplace, merchants who had been too busy sustaining their livelihoodsto care for their children were more than pleased.

Another Children’sAnshim(안심) School opened, this time in the Osan(오산) traditional market. The children of merchants now have a place to staystudy after school until late. This schoolin the Stores Union building in the market.
This school, whichoperated jointlyGyeonggi ProvinceOsan(오산) University, provides a variety of educational programs such as EnglishChinese charactersMonday to Friday.
The school will provide the children of merchants with much needed care since most of the merchants work until late in the evening. To Park Gyeong-Soon(박경순), who has six childrenruns a pork hock restaurant, this schoola godsend.
In order to help merchants with childcare support, Gyeonggi Province plans to open three more Children’sAnshim(안심) Schools in traditional markets in Anseong(안성), Pocheon(포천)Namyangju(남양주).
5:Political Forum for Settlement Support forNorth Korean Defectors

North Korean defectors risked their lives to come to South Korea to find freedom. A political forum was held to discuss ways to help them establish their livelihoods. While tensions between NorthSouth Koreaare higher than ever following the North Korean bombardment ofYeonpyeong(연평) Island, forum participants were intent on finding ways to help North Korean defectors comfortably adjust to South Korean society.

The number of North Korean defectors passed the 20,000 mark this year. They are restarting their lives in South Korean society after undergoing psychological counselingvocational training.
In order to help them adjust to South Korean society, Gyeonggi Province organized a forum to discuss ways in which to support their settlement.
Assistance for North Korean defectors consistslargely of monetaryemployment support. In addition to KRW 19 million per person, whichgranted to help initial settlement, the employer of a North Korean defectorentitled to a government subsidy of50% of that person’s salary for up to three years.
Despite employment support, the employment rate of North Korean defectors was still very low at 41.9% last year.
During the forum, there was also a proposal for the establishment of a‘Peace Village’ in Yeoncheon(연천) County exclusively for North Korean defectors.
Having employed a total of 13 North Korean defectors, the largest number among autonomous bodies in Korea, Gyeonggi Province plans to employ one North Korean defector in each public office with more than 200 employees inprovincialcitiescounties.
6: Gyeonggi Province Helps Fight TB with Christmas Seals

Every year during the Christmas season, a new Christmas sealintroduced. The Christmas seals are sold to raise funds to help tuberculosis patients. Gyeonggi Province donated funds to the Korea Tuberculosis Association in exchange for Christmas seals.

Gyeonggi Province received Christmas Sealsthe Korea Tuberculosis Associationpresented a donation to the association during an official presentation ceremony so as to help the association with its anti-tuberculosis campaign.
Every year, a staggering 35,000 new cases of tuberculosis are identified in Korea. A total of 2,400 died of tuberculosis duringlast year alone, bringing the country to theamong OECD countries in both the occurrence ratefatality of tuberculosis.
In 2009,70.8% of tuberculosis patients were in their productive life stages,the number of patients with intractable tuberculosisas well as relapse casesincreasing.
Since the loss of young generationsto tuberculosisa national tragedy, Gyeonggi Province plans to address this problem with a more consistenttematic approach.
7: Conference of Agricultural Professionals in Gyeonggi

Thereanoverridingconcern among Korean farmers regarding the influx of foreign agricultural products into the country after the passage ofFTAs between Koreathe United StatesEuropean Union. In order to prepare the domestic farming industry for the future, a conference took placein Gyeonggi Province with the participation ofagricultural professionals.

The 4th Gyeonggi Agriculture CEO Conference was held for two daysDecember 6th to explore ways in which to strengthen the capacities of domestic agricultural management.
During this conference, six CEOs received the Gyeonggi Province Governor’s Awardfive others received the Gyeonggi Provincial Council Chairman’s Award.
The conference also included the exhibitionpromotion of some of the best agricultural products that have been developed over the past yearagricultural specialists in Gyeonggi Province
As part of the ‘Love Sharing Program’ of the conference, the participating CEOs donated agriculturallivestock products for usesingle seniorsindependent seniors with difficulties.
Under circumstancesin whichinexpensive foreign agricultural products will enter the country following the ratification of FTAs with the United StatesEuropean Union, Korean farmers urgently need to develop betterbreedsimprove productivity in order to compete.
