1: Family-friendly Management Consultation for Ideal Balance of HomeWorkplace

Family-friendly managementa management concept based on the establishment of family-friendly culture in workplaces for the purpose of improving the job satisfaction of employees. Many companies agree with the potential benefit of this management strategy but dohave a clear understanding of how to introducepractice this strategy. In order to help such companies improve their productivity, Gyeonggi Province provides free a family-friendly management consultation service.

At theof last year, the Korea Chamber of Commerce conducted a survey of more than 300 companies that are practicing family-friendly management. The results show that more than 80% of the companies experienced positive results in the improvement of employee job satisfactionmorale. Approximately 50% of the companies also indicated that the image of the company improved employee turnover decreased as the result of family-friendly management.
While therea rising recognition of the importance of the balance between the homeworkplace, Gyeonggi Province held, for the first time among local governments, a presentation on family-friendly management for companies in the provincenow provides a free consultation service for those companies that choose to adopt this management strategy.
Consultation will cover the assessment of family-friendliness levels, proposals for main strategiesthe identification of tasks to be performed. The consultation will take two different forms depending on the period of service: the first being standard consultationthe other being intensive support.
Any company that has been operating in Gyeonggi Province for more than two years can apply for the consultation support. Initially, 30 companies will be edthe Korea Productivity Centerthe Gyeonggi SmallMedium Business Center based on business statusexperience in the operation of family-friendly programs. The ed companies willonly be provided with free consultation service but also given priority in the ion of the “Best Workplace in Gyeonggi Province” as well as assistance with on-site problems.
With an increasing number of company employees leaving their workplaces in pursuit of better job environments, this family-friendly management consultation service will hopefully contribute to securing the lifelong employment of company employees.
2: Full-fledged Efforts for the Success of Gyeonggi Leisure-Sports Festival

As part of efforts for the successful hosting of the Gyeonggi Leisure-Sports – or ‘Leports’ – Festival that will be heldSeptember 10th until 12th in Yangpyeong County, Gyeonggi Province held a meetingsigned an MOU with related public officesinstitutes. All the participants unanimously agreed to cooperate to transform this festival into one of the brands of Gyeonggi tourism.

With the Gyeonggi Leisure-Sports Festival, dubbed as the festival in the skyon the ground, only one month away, seven public officesinstitutes including Gyeonggi Province, Yangpyeong Countythe Korean Alpine Federation gathered together to promote the successful hosting of the event.
The seven participating public officesinstitutes signed an MOU for the successful hosting of the Gyeonggi Leisure-Sports Festivalaffirmed their ment to it.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government announced that this festival will be developed as the representative leisure-sports festival of the province in which, unlike other previous leisure-sports festivals, every one can participateenjoy.
Yangpyeong County will be the venue for the Gyeonggi Leisure-Sports Festival which will runSeptember 10th until 12th. There will be a variety of leisure-sports events including paraglidingmountain climbing contests open toleisure-sports lovers. Leisure-sports in Korea have grown into a more than KRW 4 trillion industry. Gyeonggi Province plans make the most of its excellent natural environmentbecome the Korean mecca of leisure-sports.
3. Abolishment of Metropolitan Restrictions for Mutual Metropolitan-Suburban Benefits

Whatthe most serious obstacle to the development of Gyeonggi Province? Provincial Governor Kim Moon-Soo cites metropolitan restrictions as the answer. Now in his second term in office, Governor Kim has been emphasizing the necessity of abolishing the restrictions on metropolitan areas for the future development of the province. Although he has succeeded in the amendment a number of restrictive lawsregulations, his fight against restrictions will continue.

The Gyeonggi Research Institute conducted a survey on the achievements of the fourth term of popularly elected officers in the reformation of restrictionsthe resulting economic effects. The results of the survey revealed that the abolishment of metropolitan restrictionsone of the most powerful drivers for the balanced regional development of the entire nation.
The Gyeonggi Research Institute reported that, since the announcement of metropolitan deregulation in October of 2008the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, investment totaling KRW 4.8 trillion has been madeprivate companies.
The ripple effects of the deregulation amounted to KRW 6.2 trillion worth of newly induced productionmore than 60,00 new jobs. The economic effects of deregulation, however, werelimited to Gyeonggi Province.
Estimations of the economic effects of investmentcompanies in Gyeonggi Province on other regions using the regional industrial relations chart revelaed that Jeonnam Province also experienced production inducement effect of KRW 290 billion as well as the creation of many jobs. Choongnam ProvinceUlsan Metropolitan City also saw increased new production of KRW 250 billion206 billion respectively onof newly d jobs.
Gyeonggi Province stressed that more aggressive deregulationnecessary because, although metropolitan restrictions have been mitigated to some degree, the basic frameworkstill maintained.
As an example, Gyeonggi Province issued an official statement asking the central government to provide positive support for the development of Gwacheon City after the removal of the Government Office Complexthe city.
Gyeonggi Province has also appealed to the Constitutional Court for judgment on a jurisdictional dispute, which is, in effect, an appeal for deliberation on the violation of the Constitution of the Law of the Capital Area Development Plan. Such affirmative actionsGyeonggi Province for the abolishment of restrictions are drawing the attention of many who are speculating on the results with interest.
4: Site of Dispute over 4-Rivers Projects

Gyeonggi Province will endeavor to manage the water quality of the Han Riverintroduce ideal organic agricultural practices. The provincial government views the hosting of the Organic World Congress as an opportunity to introduce ideal organic farming practices to provincial residents.
5: Apache Helicopter on Display

A grass field in the Gyeonggi Provincial Office Complexcovered with a variety of military hardware including tanks, armored vehicleshelicopters, drawing the attention of visitors. During the Eulji Defense Exercise period, Gyeonggi Province held a defenseanti-disaster equipment exhibition.

Spectators are awedthe imposing steel tanks. They are fascinatedthe helicopters that seem ready to take to the sky at any moment. They can’t believe that these war machines, which they could previously see only on television or in the, are in front of their eyes. 4) Display of a Variety of Military Equipment
On display in this exhibition was a variety of military hardware usedthe Army, Navy, Air Force, MarinesSpecial Forces.
An Apache helicopter, whichknown as a tank killer, was also displayed courtesy of the US Forces Korea. It drew considerable interestthe spectators.
There was also an anti-terrorist defense exercise simulating a real crisis at KINTEX in Goyang City. This defenseanti-disaster equipment exhibition was organized to promote a sense of defense among residents.
6: Korean War Photo Book Was Published

In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Korean War, Gyeonggi Province held a ceremony in honor of the publication of a significant book. Ita book that contains images of the Korean Warthe onset of hostilities until the ceasefire. Photos in the book are categorized under different themes.

Thisthe first photograph of the Korean War taken only 3 days after the onset of hostilities. It shows the destroyed Han River Bridge. Thereanother photograph of young student soldiers holding riflesmarching to battle. A letterKim Il-seong to Mao Ze Tung requesting support troops vividly reflects the tense situation of the time.
This photo book contains in its two volumes images of the Korean Warthe beginning of hostilities until the ceasefire. There are also a number of classified photos that hadbeen previously disclosed.
This photo book also contains 625 rare photos of the Korean War taken25 nationalinternational war correspondents.
General Baek Seon-yeop, who had urgently flown to the United States as a secret envoy before the ceasefire, was momentarily lost in reminiscence.
The photos displayed in the central field of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office Complex until August 17th will be available as a photo bookAugust 23rd. This bookconsideredcritics to be the best photo book about the Korean War with its reminders of the meaning of June 25th, 1950.
7: No More Delay of GTX, the Metropolitan Express Railway

The announcement of the results of the commissioned deliberationthe central government on the feasibility of the metropolitan express railway project, GTX,now the focus of interest. In order to drive forward with the GTX project, Gyeonggi Provinceaccelerating its efforts such as organizing a GTX Forum.

The Metropolitan Express Railway, GTX, can travel at 200 kilometers per hour through a tunnel 40 meters underground,is capable of circling the entire capital area in just one hour.
A GTX Forum was held for the purpose of promoting the GTX project. The leading national expertsa wide range of areas including transportation, economy, urban planning, tourismjournalism participated in this forum, which was ledKorea Patent Attorneys Association Chairman Lee Sang-Hui with Seoul National University Professor Park Chang-Ho as a co-chair.
Presentations under the theme of “GTXa Transportation Welfare Point of View” emphasized the necessity of the implementation of the GTX project.
As a convenient means of transportation for the 12 million residents of Gyeonggi Province as well as the citizens of the capital area, GTX will have numerousenormous effects: the annual reduction of indirect losses due to traffic congestionKRW 700 billion; the creation of 260,000 new jobs; new production inducement effects of KRW 27 trillion; the reduction of annual energy costsKRW 580 billion;the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions1.5 million tons
6) GTX, Targeted to Be Included in 2012 National Railway Plan Starting Works in 2nd Half of the Year
The results of the feasibility study on the GTX Project will be announced in September. Gyeonggi Province plans to have this project included in the national railway plan2012to start work in the second half of the same year.
In order to drive the GTX project more actively, Gyeonggi Province plans to hold the GTX Forum every month with different themes startingthis month’s theme of transportation welfare.
