1.IT Leads Professional Training for Women

The Gyeonggi Women’s Development Center this yearonce again recruiting women trainees for the Professional IT Training Program for Women. This programdesigned for women who seek careers in the IT field. Since this programgeared to train professional IT specialists for both employmentself-employment, many of the trainees who completed this program have successfully secured positions in various fields of the IT industry.

Kim Ki-nam36 years old. She gave up her job when she became pregnant and, when she was ready to re-enter the workforce, she couldfind a new job because of the gap in her career. However, after 6 months of professional IT training at the Gyeonggi Women’s Development Center, she started her own business in on-line educational contents production.
The Gyeonggi Women’s Development Center provides the customized, practice-orientated educational program for women such as Ms. Kim in their 30s40s who are interested in pursuing a career in IT areas. Since it first opened in 1997, a total of 1799 trainees have completed this program. Among them, 1167 are currently working in IT areas, representing a remarkable employment rate of 65%.
The center will soonrecruitment of women trainees for this year’s professional IT courses. There are 6 courses available including a shopping mall website courseweb designer certificate course. Any woman aged 15 or older who lives in Gyeonggi Province may apply for courses, which cost between KRW 70,00090,000. Aparteducational courses, the center also provides various personal support services to assist the trainees in establishing themselves as IT professionals.
2.Gyeonggi Province Met University Students in Yukdo Island

The 5th popularly elected Governor of Gyeonggi Provinceemphasizing the development of on-site administration. The university students’ communication camp openedGyeonggi Province on the remote west coast island of Nakdo exemplifies this initiative.

Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-Sooeager to listen to what students have to say. Students wrote down what they expectthe governor on memo paperstuck it to themselves. Governor Kim talked with students with a number of such memos affixed.
Under the slogan of ‘Youth Is The Most Precious Thing, Enjoy It”, this students’ camp was designed to help provincial authorities understand youth cultureidentify the new future potential of the province. A mock provincial assembly staff meeting was held with the participation of students. This 2-day camp organizedGyeonggi Province was more than just an occasion for communication with university students; it also provided an opportunity to discover the new future potential of the province. It opened up expectations for an open provincial government that welcomes participation fromgenerations.
3.IPTV Study Room for Students of Low-income Families

Gyeonggi Province plans to open IPTV Study Rooms in Child Welfare Centers throughout the province. Students of under-privileged, low-income families can benefitquality education services since they can access education services through televisionscomputers in these study rooms.

The first IPTV Study Room in Suwon City opened in the Child Welfare Center in Gosaek-dong, Gwonseon-gu.
Children are learning English under the supervision of a teacher. Education services on major subjects including Englishmathematics that are providedKT can be accessed at any time through televisions or computers free of charge here.
After signing “The Wireless Internet DistributionSocial Contribution Projects Support Agreement” with KT, Gyeonggi Province now plans to open IPTV Study Rooms in 656 local Child Welfare Centers throughout the provincetheof this year. To finance this project, the provincial governmentregional citydistrict offices will contribute KRW 300 million each. A total of KRW 600 million will be used to purchase televisions,KT will provide IPTVInternet lines free of charge for one year.
Gyeonggi ProvinceKT have a joint plan to install wireless data transmission tems, Wi-Fi, at more than 2500 locations within the province to build a ubiquitous environment in which free connection to the network can be made throughout the province.
4.Gyeonggi Province Raises Image Industry Development Capital Fund

Gyeonggi ProvinceGoyang City jointly lead the establishment of a new type of a capital fund for the development of the image industry. So far, under the leadership of Gyeonggi Province, a joint fund of KRW 3 billion has already been raised for the promotion of investment in the image industry.[Report]
Gyeonggi ProvinceGoyang City jointly took the initiative in raising a capital fund for the development of the Korean image industry.
Gyeonggi Province signed an MOU with six other public agencies including Goyang Citythe Gyeonggi PerformanceFilm Commission for the establishment of a capital fund for the image industry.
Following the raising of this image industry fund, Gyeonggi Province will accelerate the establishment of image industry clusters to address both industrialwelfare needs.
When active investment in film productionrealized through this MOU, it will become the object of benchmarkingthe image tees of other local governments in Korea.
The formal signing of the MOU was followedan organizers’ meeting for the 2nd DMZ Korean International Documentary Festival. This meeting marked the formal beginning of work for this film festival which opens in September this year.
The DMZ Korean International Documentary Festival was praised last year for the introduction of superior documentary productions. The number of featured productions has increased to 70 this year,a domestic competition section was added.
The 2nd DMZ Documentary Film Festival will run for five daysSeptember 9th until 13th in the Paju Publishing Complex. This theme of this year’s festival‘DMZ, the Space of Peace, LifeCommunication.’
5.TouchFeel Jangsu PundengieStag Beetles

An unusual insect exhibition in which viewers can touchfeel living creatures such as stag beetlesrhinoceros beetles opens in the Mulhyanggi Forest Garden in Osan.

The rhinoceros beetle carries itselfan ancient general ready for a battle, complete with a helmetbattle armor. The stag beetle brazenly displays its powerful clawsenjoys battling with an opponent. Eerie butterfly larvae move about, looking completely unlike beautiful adults. Children are fascinatedlive insects that they can’t see everyday.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Mulhyanggi Forest Garden will hold the Insect Experiential ExhibitionJuly 20th until August 22nd.
A total of 15 insect species including stag beetles, rhinoceros beetlesdiving beetles will be displayed at this exhibition.
Whatunique about this exhibitionthat viewers can really experience adult stag beetlesrhinoceros beetlestheir larvae, gumbaengie,touching them. Hundreds specimens of other insects including foreign species are also displayed together with insect photosintroductory panels.
This insect experiential exhibition will be held annuallythis year during summer vacation to promote the importance of natural habitatsenvironment preservation among visitors to this forest garden.
6.“Though I Can’t See, I Can Apply Make-up AloneFeel Confident”

Gyeonggi Hope Performance Sharing Events embody Gyeonggi Province’s initiative in showing support for the visually impaired. This time, Gyeonggi Province organized a special Make-up Contest for the visually impaired. The contestants express themselves with make-up techniques, unhinderedtheir impairments.

Some contestants dispense cosmetics on their palms for application on their faces. Others are busy with eye make-up. All of them exhibit their skills as unimpaired. Non-visually impaired participants also try to apply make-up without using mirrors. In this Make-up Contest of Gyeonggi Hope Performance Sharing, six teams out of a total of 17 teams were awarded main prizesspecial prizes.
The purpose of this Gyeonggi Hope Performance Sharing Eventto improve the welfare of underprivilegedvisually impaired individualssupport their social participation. More than 400 visually impaired individualsvolunteers participated in this event.
Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-Soo, Goyang Mayor Choi Seongthe director of the Gyeonggi PerformanceFilm Commission participated in the signing of a cornea donation pledge.
Together with Gyeonggi Province, the cosmetics company B & One agreed to jointly organize an annual make-up contest for visually impaired individuals.
The donation of cornea regardless of color-blindnesseye sightexpression of self are the main agenda of this make-up contest in which visually impaired persons can build personal confidence. Expectations are high that this event will develop into an annual fixture in which society as a whole can better understand the visually impaired through communication.
7. Collaboration of Fire DefensePolice for Safeguarding Lives in Gyeonggi Province

For the first time in Korea, a Fire Investigation Contest was held with the participation of firefighterspolice officers. By sharing fire investigation experiences between fire defensepolice through this event, itexpected that the scientific analysis of fire incidents will greatly enhanced in the future.

A pot catches fire on a gas cooker in a refurbished house in Shiheung City in Gyeonggi Province. The fire soon spreads to the refrigerator next to the ovenspreads further with fearsome speed. It started on the second floor,the whole buildingnow engulfedblack smoke gushing out through the windows. Thisone of six reenacted house fires among the six most frequently reported causes.
Nine fire investigation teams consisting of fire defensepolice officers began analyzing the causes of the firemeasuring temperature changestoxic gas density using advanced equipment.
The number of house fires in Gyeonggi Province was 918 in 2008, 712 in 2009292 during the first half of this year, whichan alarming level.
The scientific investigation of the causes of firebecoming more important with the increasing number of fires. Joint investigationfire defensepolice officersexpected to enhance the protection of livesproperty of provincial residents.
