1.JOB Exhibition for Vocational High Schools Attracted 300 Visitors

In order to alleviate the problem of youth unemployment, Gyeonggi Province organized a job exhibition for vocational high school students. More than 300 high schoolersvocational institutes visited the exhibition in search of job opportunities.

The employment rate of vocational high school graduates has been on a continuous decline. According to statisticsa surveythe Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, the current rate of vocational high school graduates pursuing higher education84%, their employment rateno higher than 10%.
In order to help vocational high school graduates find jobs, Gyeonggi Provincethe Gyeonggi Job Center held the ‘2010 Vocational High School Job Festival.’
The students who visited this exhibition filled in resumesself profile formsthen had interviews with personnel officersthe participating companies.
Since this job exhibition was organized exclusively for the job-seeking students of vocational high schools, itexpected to result in a higher rate of job applications among visitors than other types of employment promotion events.
In order to improve the employment potential of vocational high school students, Gyeonggi Province also runs a Job Lecture Tour at vocational institutes.
Gyeonggi Province plans to operate a variety of programs this year to help a total of 1700 young job seekers.
2.Presentation on Local Taxes

Gyeonggi Province invited corporate accounting professionals in the province to a presentation on local taxes in order to provide them with a wide range of useful local tax information for businesses, such as the fact that,next year, local taxes can be paid without the prior receipt of a tax notice.

Corporate accounting professionals in Gyeonggi Province had the opportunity to come together at an event specially organized for them. It was the 2010 Local Tax Presentation givenGyeonggi Province.
The purpose of this presentation, which has been held annually for 12 years since 1999,to help corporate accounting personnel understand local taxesprovide them with useful information on convenient tax payment methods.
During this presentation, Gyeonggi Province distributed a guidebook to attendees that contains an explanation of revised Local Tax Law as well as useful information on local tax procedures.
This presentation was also an opportunity for Gyeonggi Province to listen to tax payers, who expressed queriescomplaints about local taxes,adapt the tax administration to the needs of companies.
3.Inauguration of the 8th Gyeonggi Provincial Council

The Gyeonggi Provincial Council finally achieved normalcylaunched its 8th session after some delays due to a conflict between the rulingopposition parties about the organization of the Council. The members of the 8th Gyeonggi Provincial Council elected the chairperson as well as vice chairpersonsheld a formal inauguration ceremony.

The 8th Gyeonggi Provincial Council had been crippled even before its inauguration because of a conflict between the Millennium Democratic Partythe Grand National Party over the appointment of a vice chairpersonthe allotment of tee chairperson positions.
The conflict was finally settled with the Grand National Party officially expressing their regret during a press conference aboutmonopolized the previous 7th session.
Following the dramatic settlement between the two parties that took one week, the Gyeonggi Provincial Council opened againelected Huh Jae-wanthe Millennium Democratic Party as the chairperson of the council. In his acceptance speech, the new chairperson expressed his determination to lead the council as a body of communication, administrationrestraint in fulfillment of the expectations of provincial residents.
The council also elected Kim Gyeong-ho of the Millennium Democratic PartyGang Seok-oh of the Grand National Party as Vice Chairpersons.
After the election of the chairpersonvice chairpersons, the formal inauguration of the 8th Gyeonggi Provincial Council was markeda ceremony. The council will act as a watchdogrestraining force for local government for the next four years. Hopes are high that the Gyeonggi Provincial Council will live up to the expectations of the 12 million residents of the province as it successfully overcame initial difficulties.
4. Relicsthe Gentry of the Joseon Dynasty

The gentry of the Joseon Dynasty are the houses of high officials who lead the societyculture of that time. At the Gyeonggi Provincial Museum,the Joseon Dynasty Gentry Relics Exhibitionbeing held, we can take a glimpse at their lives.

This ‘Gwejang’is a chair-and-cane set granted to a courtierthe king. This set, which was designed for the comfort of the person who received it, reveals the caring thought of the king for his courtiers.
The gentry of the Joseon Dynasty were high officials who attended the royal court to assist the king. They were the intellectuals of their time. A king would hold a party for one of themgrant a gwejang (궤장) as a token of appreciation for the serviceloyalty of the recipient.
An exhibition of relicsthe Joseon Dynasty opened in which viewers can take a glimpse at the lives of the gentry of the Joseon Dynasty in the 17th18th centuries. A total of 200 relics kept31 houses of Joseon Dynasty gentry in Gyeonggi Province were brought to the Gyeonggi Provincial Museum for public display.
There are paintings that depict how gentry youths prepared for the state examination, ‘gwageo,’ which was the Joseon Dynasty version of the fiercely competitive modern-day entrance examinations. Paintings also show the lives of the gentry of the timehow they enjoyed their culture by, for example, sharing their own paintings.
Well preserved formal attirevarious documentsletters of the gentry reveal their lives first hand.
The gentry of the old dynasty were intellectuals of unforgiving self-discipline who governed commoners. The frugalityintegrity of their lives will enlighten the hearts of visitors.
5. Apartment-Type ‘Vegetable Factory’ Will Lead Future Agriculture

A ground-breaking ceremony for a vegetable factory, in which vegetables will be produced throughout the year, was held in Gyeonggi Province. This factory consists of 3-storiesone sub-level,itfully equipped with an innovative automated tem that promises high yields of agricultural products.

This vegetable farmencased in glass walls with solar cells installed on each floor. It will also house special facilities including a Solution Culture Rooma Seedling Room.
The horizontal cultivating tem of this building-style vegetable factory allows farm vegetables to be grown throughout the yearcreating an artificial environment with controlled light, temperaturenutrient supply.
Since the intervals between plants are adjusted as the plants growthe nutrient solutionrecycled, energy consumption can be reducedup to approximately 70 percent compared with conventional farming methods.
The Rural Development Administration held a ground-breaking ceremony for this building-style horizontal vegetable factory,announced that the 4-level facility will also be used for intensive research on vegetable cultivation for 5 years.
This vegetable factorya new concept thatexpected to contribute to the development of agricultural technologybecome one of the blue-chip agricultural industries of the future.
6.Swimming Race in Imjin River Symbolizes Hope of Reunification

For the first time since the separation of the country, a swimming race was held in the Imjin River, whichthe very place that saw the painful separation of NorthSouth Koreathe subsequent heartrending desire for reunification.

The first swimming race in the Imjin River since the separation of the country was held to symbolize wishes for reunification. Since this year marks the 60th anniversary of the Korean War, this swimming race was organized to rekindle public aspirations for reunificationpromote awareness of the meaning of the DMZ.
Over one thousand professional swimmers, swimming club memberslocal residents participated in this race, which was organized to symbolically express wishes for national reunification. For security purposes, this event was designed as a non-competitive, full-crossing swimming race.
Participants plunged into the river to swim to the far bank,a medal was awarded tothose who successfully completed the 600m course.
The Governor of Gyeonggi Province, Kim Moon-Soo, also participated in this eventswimming a special 50m course with regional representatives of the province.
A variety of associated events were also held around the venue of this race, including a photo exhibition of the ‘Peace, Eco SystemHistory of the DMZ’ as well as a Peace Puzzle Game.
This Imjin River Reunification-Hope Swimming Race, which was held in the rivermemories of painful separationheartrending desire for reunification co-exist, was a successful reminder of our hopes for peaceful reunification.
7.Producers of Eco-friendly Farm Products Join Together

Gyeonggi Province established a Joint Business Association in order to secure sales for eco-friendly farmershelp strengthen their competitiveness.\\

In order to ensure sales for the producers of eco-friendly agricultural productshelp improve their competitiveness, the Joint Business Association of the Paldang Eco-friendly Agricultural Cooperative was establishedGyeonggi Province.
The launch of this joint business association also marks the birth of a joint marketing organization in which 14 local agricultural cooperatives, producersfarming companies in 8 citiesdistricts in the vicinity of the Paldang Lake Area participate.
The combined eco-friendly farm products marketing activities of the ‘Joint Business Association of the Paldang Eco-friendly Agricultural Cooperative’ will include: the supply of eco-friendly products to school meal services, breakfast service to promote the consumption of eco-friendly rice, supply to large-scale distributors,operation of food-processing businesses.
The inauguration ceremony was followedthe signing of an MOU for the supply of eco-friendly agricultural productsGyeonggi Provincethe SPC Group, which owns renowned national bakeryconfectionery companies including Paris BaguetteShany.
With signing of this MOU, Gyeonggi Province builds momentum for the active development of eco-friendly farming,the SPC Group will be guaranteed a supply of the province’s high quality agricultural products.
Gyeonggi Province launched a model business for the supply of eco-friendly rice to morning school meal services to provide over 100,000 schoolchildren with eco-friendly morning meals.
The launch of this joint business association for eco-friendly agricultural products will help eco-friendly farmers increase income levels providing safer food ingredients to provincial residents.
