1. Gyeonggi Province Housewives’ Day Commemoration Ceremony

The Commemoration Ceremony of the 22nd Gyeonggi Province Housewives’ Day was attendedover 2,000 housewives in Gyeonggi Province. The ceremony was also significant as an event through which Gyeonggi women celebratereaffirm their solidaritypride.

The commemoration ceremony for Gyeonggi Province Housewives’ Dayorganized every year to provide the housewives of Gyeonggi Province with an opportunity to celebrate themselvesenhance their morale. The agenda of the ceremony also includes the presentation of the ‘Women of Merit’ Awards.
Following the formal commemoration ceremony, the ‘Women of Merit’ Awards were presented to 28 women who rendered distinguished service in improving the status, rightsinterests of women. Also, 48 winners of the Gyeonggi Women Arts Contest were presented with Gubernatorial Awards.
In order to assist housewives in the province with their domestic affairschildcare, Gyeonggi Province operates a variety of childcare support programs as well as programs for women in multicultural families.
The women of Gyeonggi Province are more determined than ever to stand up to the challenges of their dutiesmake their mark on societyjust within Gyeonggi Province but throughout the world as well.
2.‘No Reason Women Can’t Drive Buses As Well As Men’

A training course for women bus drivers, administrated directlyGyeonggi Province, will open soon. Following the first women bus driver training course last year, Gyeonggi Provinceabout tothe second such course. This program willonly provide women with new job opportunities but will also have the effect of improving bus service.

Thirty-five year-old Ms. Yun Myeong-Hwa works as a bus driver for a transportation company in Hanam City of Gyeonggi Province.
Ms Yuna former trainee of the women bus driver training course that Gyeonggi Province organized last year. She received her bus driver’s licensecurrent job after completing the course.
She works 16 hours every second day, earning KRW 2 million a month,says that she enjoys her work very much.
Bus travelers welcome women drivers as they can expect safe drivingkind service.
Last year, a total of 11 women successfully found jobs as bus drivers after completing the women bus driver training course, accounting for 29% of the total of 38 individuals who were granted bus driver’s licenses last year.
Gyeonggi Province has an ambitious plan this year that aims to produce 22 women bus drivers through the second training course.
In fact, 22 women have already completed a preliminary training course that was provided at the Gyeonggi Woman’s Vision CenterJune 22nd until 29th.
After completing the bus driver training course, these 22 trainees are expected to start working in bus companies in Gyeonggi ProvinceNovember.
3. An Open Lecture on Rice Dishes for the Promotion of Rice Consumption

In order to promote the consumption of rice, a cooking lecture introducing a variety of dishes using ground rice was held. This lectureexpected to encourage the development of new rice dishes leading to the increased consumption of rice

Gyeonggi Province organized an open lecture under the name of ‘Healthy Life with Rice’ to introduce a variety of ways to use ground rice to make nutritious dishes. This lecture was attendedschool nutritionists, consumer organizationsparents of school children.
The invited lecturer, Yang Hyang-Ja, the chairman of the World Food Culture Center, gave an opening lecture on the superiority of rice as a food ingredientthe development of the rice processing industry.
A cooking class then followed in which the attendees participated in the actual cookingtasting of rice dishes. A variety of food products using rice were also exhibited for viewingtasting.
Gyeonggi Provincecurrently running the ‘Rice Plus Program’ in order to develop new rice dishespromote the consumption of rice.
4. Bus Information to Cover Gyeonggi Province, SeoulIncheon

The bus information tem runGyeonggi Province will soon include information on buses operating in the SeoulIncheon areas. Now bus passengers traveling tofrom these areas will no longer experience inconvenience when they look for bus information.

Gyeonggi Province will provide an improved bus information serviceexpanding information coverage to the SeoulIncheon areas as well. This new expanded tem will be in full service as soon as improvement workcomplete.

The Internet homepage for bus information, www.gbis.go.kr, will provide faster searchrecent search viewing functions. The page layout will also be improved to allow important information contents such as the current location of busestraffic conditions to be viewed at a glance.
Gyeonggi Province expects that the introduction of this upgraded bus information tem will have the effect of increasing the use of public transportationGyeonggi residents.
5.Water Damage Restoration Work at Final Pitch to End Worries over Coming Monsoon Season

There will be a great deal rainJuly when the monsoon season starts. The monsoon season last year caused 10 major water disasters in Gyeonggi Province alone,restoration work was necessary in more than 1300 locations. Gyeonggi Provincemaking final efforts to finish restoration work before the monsoon season arrives.

Flood damage restoration workat its peak at the Hakhyeoncheon tributary work site in Uiwang City. Thiswhere the embankment collapsed after a torrential rain last year, causing agriculturalfacility damage of KRW 160 million. Work has been done here to widen the rivererect protective structures.
Water damage restoration work consists primarily of widening riversrestoring river bank protection with higher embankments designed to look natural in accordance with the surrounding scenery.
Out of 1320 restoration sites that suffered water damage last year, work at 1308 sitescomplete. The work at the remaining sites will be completedtheof July. The restoration work will protect the residents of Gyeonggi Provincedamage causedtorrential downpours during the monsoon season this summer.
6.119 Recruits Volunteers; Professionals are Welcome

The FirefightingDisaster Headquarters of Gyeonggi Provincerecruiting young volunteers for 119 services. Volunteers will provide the supplementary manpower required at disaster sites. The recruitment conditions this time state that professionals such as doctorslawyers will be given preferential treatment.

7.A Children’s Anshim School Opens in the Second Office of Gyeonggi Province!

Children’s Anshim Schools, which provide after-school childcare for families with working parents or low-income levels, first opened in primary schools. Then, early this year, the Gyeongin National University of Education became the first university to establish an Anshim school on their campus. Now, Gyeonggi Province itself became the first public office to accommodate oneestablishing an off-school Anshim school in its Second Government Office Complex.

Forty university students of Gyeongin National UniversitySamyuk University attended the opening ceremonypledged 1-to-1 relationships with the children as well as active participation.
The Off-school Children’s Anshim School operates1 pm until 9 pmprovides 21 children with quality educational programs including textbook-orientated language activities, English, mathematics, sciencearts classes.
The Pureun-nuri Reporter Group, a group of primary school children who are working as reporters, also attended the opening ceremonyinterviewed officials of Gyeonggi Province on child policy.
As of theof last year, a total of 52 Off-school Children’s Anshim Schools opened, operating 77 classrooms in various locations including the Gyeongin National University of Educationthe Wabu (와부) Library. These schools willonly save parents the costs of private education but also play an important role in protecting childrenvarious accidentsproviding safe after-school childcare services.
