[A Busy Day]
The Gyeonggi Province representative envoy visited Japan. An originally scheduled four day trip was reduced to only one day.
The Gyeonggi envoy visited the province`s sister city, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.
Provincial Governor Kim Mun-su attended the Korea-Japan Manifesto Conference.
Provinical Governor Kim emphasized in his keynote address that loyalty to the peoplemore important than simply fulfilling promises.
The envoy then left to inspect Yokohama port`s world renowned `Yokohama International Port Terminal,`the Aqua Line which runs through Tokyo Port.
The underwater tunnel, the Aqua Line was a place to benchmark as Gyeonggi Province made the visit to insist on the importance of an underwater sea tunnel between KoreanChinaKoreaJapan.
[Hopes of a New Job…]
With the bad economy these days finding a new jobas difficult as finding the first job.
Thisa job center in the province. The numbers of people coming here to find work are growing amidst an extended stagnant marketan uncertain job market.
Itbecoming moremore difficult for those once employed to find new jobs with teh deteriorating employment situation.
An employment consulting support project has been introduced intended for job seekers in Gyeonggi Province.
Likewise, this year the number of applicantsexpected to rise to 1100 with an additional office to be added to the existing 5 including the Suwon branch.
We look forward to the Gyeonggi Province employment support projects to give those dreaming of new hope a good opportunity despite these difficult times.
[Care for Civilians]
To help families in need the infinite care project has been expanded to include civilian groups.
With the difficult economy, Gyeonggi Province has been providing families sufferingthe sudden crisis with living allowances, medical allowancesother support through the infinite care project.
Last year, the province spent $1.4 million on this project. This year the provinceexpanding the budget to over $22 millionup until now 1300 families have received support.
The Gyeonggi Province Infinite Care Projectexpanding its participation to civilian groups.
Farming families in the province have joined forces with the Gyeonggi Province Infinite Care Project.
The Korea Swine Association has donated 1 ton of domestically raised pork to disperse among families under the infinite care project.
1 ton of pork should be more than enough to feed 1000 families.
Not long ago the infinite care tee which was started among religious, politicalfinancial circles promised to contribute $2.1 million to the social welfare joint fundraiser association.
[Resident`s thoughts on Gyeonggi]
Survey results are out about which policy residents in Gyeonggi Province thought was the most successful.
At the beginning of the year, of 1200 residents surveyed the metropolitan unified fare tem was the most satisfactory fo the policies.
It looks as policies regarding public transportation usage including transfer discountsdirect express buses had the best response.
Alsolast year many voiced approval regarding the easing of restrictions in the metropolitan area.
Last year land reserved for military usedevelopment restricted land being freed up in the metropolitan areas in Gyeonggi got positive reviews.
On the one hand, upon reflecting on the recent downturn in the economy there are many residents who wouldto see more done to jobs.
Due to such concernsresidents it looks as more should be done to improve the policies this year.
[Specialized Courses]
Schools are specializing in one subject, English, Science or some other subject.
This one subject per school idea which focuses on training special talents has been receiving good reviews.
At one high school in Jeonghwang Dong, Siheung in the middle of school vacation a class has gathered to recite poetry.
These studentsattend literaturewriting class three times a week as creative writing specialists.
Thisa student writing a poem about today`s theme, `cows.` The thought process seems no different than a real poet`s.
From one specialty school in the province this year 7 students specializing in science have been awarded early admissiona famous Korean university.
At present there are 44 schools in the country that one specialized subjectteach only that subject matter to the students.
Doing away with standardized education these schools are becoming a place of learning providing students an opportunity to boost their competitiveness through specializationstudies that fit.
[More CCTVs]
Provincial Governor Kim Mun-su has reviewed the police report about the casearrest of the serial murders occurring in southwest Gyeonggi Province. After this case it looks as more CCTVs will be installed nationwide.
On the 1st, Provincial Governor Kim pedthe Sangnok Police Departmentreviewed the police report regarding the case of the serial killing in southwest Gyeonggi Province.
Also, he encouraged those who worked nightday on the case.
The decisive key to solving this case was a CCTV camera.
The importance of CCTV cameras have become even more evident after the manpower of the police alone wasenough to maintain laworder.
As of July 2008 4600 CCTVs are in operation. But plans are underway to install over 1000 moretheof the year.
The installations willin Hwaseong, Ansan, Gunpo,other high crime areas in southwest Gyeonggi Province.
However, the federal budget allotted to Gyeonggi Provincea trifling 13.2% of the total costs to set up the cameras.
It looks as a chanceneeded to ensure the minimum safetypeace of the people through installing CCTV cameras nationally.
[Lightrail comes to Yongin]
Yongin held a grand opening ceremony for the first light rail to be introduced in Korea.
Yongin, Gyeonggi has plans to finish construction on the project2010.
The light rail has been made public for the first time at the grand opening held at the car depot.
This light rail can travel up to 80 kilometers an hourtransport about 220 people.

Also, since it runs on electricity therelittle vibration or noise when in operation. Itan environment-friendly convenient way to get around town.
The route runs a total of 18.4 kilometersGugal station in Giheung through Dongbaek to Everland.
The line willto run in June of next year after construction on 15 stationscompleted. A transfer to the Bundang line will be made possible connecting SeoulYongin.
