1. [50,000 Windows, Wall of the Future]
A giant wall painting that includes the hopes and dreams of 50,000 children has been created causing quite a stir.
The opening ceremony for the ’50,000 windows, wall of the future’ was held on the 6that the Gyeonggi Province Art Gallery outdoor stage.

At the opening ceremony a congratulatory concert by a children’s choir was held followed by a video displaying the making of the painting.
The giant wall painting stands 10 meters high and 72 meters wide. It was created by the artist Kang Ik-jung and was donated to the Gyeonggi Art Gallery.

The first and second floor walls of the art gallery, which are connected, are covered by the painting; it was created by putting together 50,000 elementary school students’ pictures from throughout Korea.

The pictures have concrete themes including dreams, what they plan to be in the future, places they want to visit, and favorite animals depicted quite accurately.
The giant 50,000 windows, wall of the future is planned to become a permanent exhibit in the Gyeonggi Province Art Gallery.
2. [Grape Exports to Increase]
Hwaseong grapes, well-known for their sweet fragrance and excellent taste are becoming recognized overseas as well as domestically.
On the 5th a distribution center to maintain the distribution and export of Hwaseong grapes was completed in Songsan-myeon, Hwaseong.

The center is equipped with a storage facility that can store grapes for 30 days, and manages grape sorting packaging, distribution, and export procedures all in the same place.

Hwaseong grapes are cultivated in about 1,800 farms in Songsan-myeon and Seoshin-myeon in Hwaseong.

After the first exports to Southeast Asia in 2001 the grapes have also been exported to the US since 2005.

With the opening of the center, Gyeonggi Province and Hwaseong expect to see annual export amounts of 600 tons and $2.72 million in annual gross sales.
3. [We are Young!]
The biggest sporting event for seniors, the ‘National Seniors Living Sports Contest’ was held in Suwon. Seniors from across the country displayed their vigorous old age in various events including gate ball.

The contest was attended by 4,000 seniors 60 years old and up and was held for 3 days.

Participants displayed their talents in 12 sporting events such as gate ball, badminton, and soccer in 16 locations throughout Suwon.

This is where gate ball is played, which was one of the representative sports at the senior sporting event.

Here is the living gymnastics contest that took place in the indoor gymnasium.
The seniors with mottled clothing move just as well as young people.

4. [Creating a Beautiful City]
These days the Gyeonggi region expects to apply attractive shapely and strong features to new buildings.
Gyeonggi Province concluded an agreement with the Korea National Housing Corporation, and the Korea Land Corporation and other public agencies to improve the standardized designs and create attractive buildings.
From now on it will be difficult to find cookie-cutter apartments.
To create more urban scenic beauty Gyeonggi Province has concluded a joint agreement with 31 cities and counties local autonomies and other groups involved in city development projects.

The agreement includes building discriminating cities through original city buildings and scenic designs.
Accordingly, from now on public buildings will be designed by making use of public subscription to build landmark buildings that include the characteristic images and features of the city or county they are built in.

5. [Make use of the Greenbelt…]
A considerable amount of the land in the province is thought of as part of a greenbelt making it difficult to acquire building permits there. Opinions that call for the rational maintenance of this land have been presented.

Provincial Governor Kim Mun-su explained the present conditions of the development restricted areas in the province and strongly requested the government ease some of the prohibitions on the greenbelt.

On the one hand the participants in the debate the Gyeonggi Development Institute, and the Lee Wae-hee Institute indicated that the greenbelt which exists across 21 cities and counties in the province is the source of many problems they are having with stimulating the local economy.

Accordingly, they insisted that necessary systematic improvements are required for subdividing and providing chances to use the greenbelt area.

6. [Distribution Center Coming Soon]
It looks as if the quantity of goods transported in the metropolitan area will increase. With a hi-tech distribution center to be built in the province distribution technology will also be introduced.
In the Gyeonggi region 11 hi-tech distribution complexes, totaling 5.82 million square meters are planned to be built by 2012.

Accordingly, following the Gwangju and Yeoju distribution centers the third hi-tech center is planned to be built on 540,000 square meters in the Ojeonggu Ojeong Dong and Sangjeong Dong areas in Bucheon.
When completed by 2012 the largest distribution company in the world, the American Prologis will be moving into the Bucheon Ojeong Distribution Center.
In addition 8 other distribution centers including those in Anseong and Namyangju will be built starting from this year to be completed by 2012.

7. [Speak with Your Hands]
Gyeonggi Province is the only place where civil servants participate in the sign-language recital contest. This year many civil servants participated creating quite a colorful performance.
The Gyeonggi Province civil servants sign-language recital contest was held.
This year marking the 9th contest included 11 teams of civil servants, 80 people in total participating with 500 deaf persons also watching completely filling the venue.

and his wife made a special appearance and
performed a sign language song gaining much attention.
