Gyeonggi Province has been running an exploration program based on old streets of Gyeonggi Province – such as the Samnam Trail – and is currently seeking participants on a first-come, first-served basis for the 8th exploration session on September 23.
This exploration course – themed ‘Walking through the old villages of the Samnam Trail’ – will consist of the Moraksan Mountain course in Samnam Trail Zone 3. The course begins at Baegun Lake, which was selected as the best vacation spot in Southern Gyeonggi, and includes the ‘Tomb of Prince Imyeong’ Station, Moraksan Trail, Omaegi Village, and Tongmi Village.
Omaegi Village, which has the atmosphere of an old countryside village, attracts trekkers with its ‘heart tree’ photo zone and Samnam tavern rest area. Tongmi Village is located on the corner of the street past Omaegi Village towards Suwon and is a place through which clear stream water flows.
Visitors can apply for the exploration session via the Old Gyeonggi Trail official homepage (http://ggoldroad.ggcf.or.kr) or call the Center for Gyeonggi Studies of the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation (+82-031-231-8574). Eighty participants will be enrolled on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Old Gyeonggi Trail is a historical and cultural exploration road based on six roads (Samnam-ro, Euiju-ro, Yeongnam-ro, Ganghwa-ro, Gyeongheung-ro, and Pyeonghae-ro) mentioned in the ‘Dorogo’ text by Silhak scholar Shin Gyeong-jun during the Joseon Dynasty. The trail was created by Gyeonggi Province, related local governments and the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation
The Old Gyeonggi Trail currently consists of and is loved by trekkers for the Samnam Trail (a total of 100km; Gwacheon City – Anyang City – Uiwang City – Suwon City – Hwaseong City – Osan City – Pyeongtaek City), the Euiju Trail (a total of 56.6km; Goyang City – Paju City) and the Yeongnam Trail (a total of 116km; Seongnam City – Yongin City – Anseong City – Icheon City).
