A safety festival was held where students, ordinary citizens, and foreign residents competed together to develop their CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) skills.
On May 17, the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced that the Gyeonggi Province Human Resources Development Institute held the 12th Gyeonggi Province CPR Contest on May 16 with 42 teams composed of 224 participants including students, ordinary citizens and foreign residents.
The contest was held to increase the participation of Gyeonggi Province residents and publicize the necessity of CPR as the need for this procedure is growing among the general public.
Of particular note, this competition was the first in Korea to see the participation of 9 foreign teams, thereby increasing its significance.
The judges evaluated the participants’ cardiac arrest and CPR response techniques as demonstrated in short exercises for eight minutes.
In each category, a total of 24 teams were awarded Gyeonggi Province Governor’s Awards, including 1 Grand Prize, 3 Awards of Excellence, and 4 Encouragement Awards.
The ‘Deokyoung Keeper’ team (Yongin Deokyeong High School; title: Our Campaign) won the grand prize in the student/youth category, the ‘Thrilling’ team (Anseong Doowon Technical University; title: Thrilling College) won in the university student/general public category, and the ‘Heartbeat China’ team (Siheung City Multicultural Family Center; title: Heart Beating~!!!) won in the foreign resident category.
The two teams that won the grand prize in the student and general divisions, will participate as representatives of Gyeonggi Province at the 12th National CPR Contest to be held in Sejong City next month.
Cho Seon-ho, Commissioner of the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters, said, “I hope that we will have the ability to save precious lives through the CPR we have learned. We will continue to provide CPR training to make Gyeonggi Province and Korea safer.”
