In preparation for the physicians’ collective action period, Gyeonggi Province will provide information about hospitals and clinics available outside regular hours via the Gyeonggi Province website (www.gg.go.kr), the 120 Call Center, and the 119 emergency number (management center) from February 24, so that people with serious emergencies can be treated quickly in emergency rooms and those with non-emergency conditions can use nearby hospitals.
The 748 hospitals and clinics were selected primarily for the five medical specialties – cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, and pediatrics – which can be overwhelmed by minor and non-emergency visits. In particular, regarding non-emergency cases in these five specialties, Gyeonggi Province urged people to use nearby hospitals and clinics so as to avoid overloading emergency room operations.
The status of emergency medical facilities, including 73 emergency medical centers equipped with emergency rooms, can also be checked in real time on the Gyeonggi Province website, the emergency medical portal (www.e-gen.or.kr) and the mobile application “Emergency Medical Information Provision (e-gen)”.
Gyeonggi Province, through meetings of the Gyeonggi Emergency Medical Council chaired by Oh Byung-kwon, Vice Governor of Gyeonggi Province, has been reviewing the operational status and conditions of each emergency medical organization and plans to communicate closely with 119 emergency medical services to support smooth hospital transfers to the fullest extent possible.
“Due to the limited resources available during the doctors’ work stoppage, people with serious emergencies may not be able to access emergency rooms… We urge those with non-emergency conditions to find the nearest medical center that is open outside of regular hours and cooperate with us in its use,” said Vice Governor Oh.
