The Gyeonggi Agro-Fisheries Institute (GAFI) had the opportunity to introduce Gyeonggi Province’s eco-friendly school meals and food technology to Hong Kong high school students visiting Korea.

On July 18, the GAFI introduced Gyeonggi Province’s eco-friendly school food system – consisting of “contract farming, collection, pre-treatment, processing and school” – to 36 female students from Hong Kong who visited Korea to explore Korean science and technology.

In addition, the GAFI discussed the future prospects and technological advancement of eco-friendly school lunches through food tech, and shared with the students the importance of the convergence of agriculture, the food industry and advanced innovative technologies, as well as the achievements of Gyeonggi food tech.

Of particular note, the students visited the cafeteria of the Gyeonggi Eco-Distribution Center, the first public institution in Gyeonggi Province to introduce an AI food scanner, and scanned the amount of leftovers after a meal to assess the dashboard display technology.

GAFI Director Choi Chang-soo said, “We receive visits from overseas organizations every quarter to benchmark the advanced practices of eco-friendly school food in Gyeonggi Province, but this is the first time that students have visited… We will continue to strive to improve quality of life for Gyeonggi residents and contribute to job creation by disseminating our achievements in addition to the stable operation of school lunches and the creation of a food tech ecosystem, the future food industry in Gyeonggi Province.”
