According to the employment census in Gyeonggi-do in August 2003, the current unemployment rate of 3.0% has climbed 0.3%p compared to last year’s rate, but has dropped 0.1%p from last month’s rate. 

Total number of unemployed, 144,000 people, has increased by 20,000 since last year, but reduced by 9,000 from last month. 

The province analyzes the drop to be caused by students delaying graduation due to the employment stagnation. Unemployment rate of the young generation has dropped 1.0%p from last year making this year’s rate of 5.7% (63,000). 

※ Average national unemployment rate of 3.3% (0.1%p↓ from last month) and the rate originated from the young generation is 6.9% (0.6%p↓ from last month). 

The economically active population for this year is 4.8 million, which has increased by 158 thousand (3.4%) from last year and declined by 68 thousand (1.4%) from last month. Uneconomical population totals 2.9 million, which increased 97 thousand from last month. 

The employed totals up to 4.6 million, which has increased by 138 (3.1%) thousand from last year and decreased by 59 thousand (1.3%) from last month..
