Special Biblical Exhibition of Spain Held to Celebrate the Year of Spain 2003

Various Christian artworks are on display in an exhibition to provide an opportunity to compare cultures of the East and the West. 

To celebrate the Year of Spain, 2003, Gyeonggi-do and Catalonia, both bonded by sister city affiliation, are holding a Spain biblical exhibition at the Gyeonggi Provincial Museum, from Dec. 12 to Feb. 29 next year. 

Traditional artwork from Catalonia, Spain will be a special experience to visitors and this special event will open a new chapter in culture exchange between the two cities. The theme of the exhibition is “Christian Artwork centered on Jesus’ Lifetime and the Catalonia region”.

The exhibition is composed of installations introducing Spain and the city, Catalonia and also the National Museum of Catalonia. The lobby will display the lifetime of Jesus Christ – his birth, childhood, sufferings and etc. 

The opening ceremony will be held on Dec. 12, with about 300 appoints from academic, religious and cultural circles in and out of Korea, including the Gyeonggi Provincial Governor, Hak-kyu Sohn, Cardinal Su-hwan Kim and other appoints. 

In addition, opening ceremony of Spain jazz, special invitation performance, demonstration of a traditional tea ceremony, participating events, Spain films and other events are prepared. An international scientific meeting on “Spain Christian Artworks” will also be held at the lecture hall of the Gyeonggi Provincial Museum in the afternoon of Dec. 16. 

Gyeonggi-do hopes this special exhibition be an opportunity to improve friendship between Spain and Korea by active cooperation and culture exchange.
