Gyeonggi-do plans to build an ‘automobile component cluster’ centering in Siheung~Ansan~Hwaseong~Pyeongtaek and simultaneously create a cluster for the IT-LCD industry.
The first large-scale ‘Int’l Automobile Parts Fair’ will open in Korea in October to accomplish in launching into overseas markets.
According to the provincial government on Feb. 1, exportation of automobiles manufactured within Gyeonggi-do has increased 32.5% compared to last year’s rate. This record takes up 14.1% of total export of Gyeonggi-do and tops export by industries.
There are about 900 automobile parts manufacturers and with about 129,000 workers working in Gyeonggi-do and the provincial government plans to develop and support the industry into the main export business in the province.
With an aim to activate the manufacturing industry of automobile parts and also contribute to raise international competitiveness, an automobile component cluster will be established centering in the industrial region on the western coast.
Industrial complexes in Siheung and Ansan where manufacturers of auto parts are gathered and the Namyang and Hwaseong area where about 7,000 manpower are working for Hyundai Motor Company laboratories and also in Pyeongtaek where Ssangyong Motor is located, are all regions selected to be developed into major integrated automobile components manufacturing zones.
The provincial government plans to establish an appropriate industrial and living environment and install day care centers, expand and pave the admission passages of industrial complexes and factories and takes measures on other improvements to make a better business conditions.
In the following October, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy (MOCIE) and the Seoul Trade Exhibition Center (SETEC) will be opening the first ‘Korean Automobile Components International Fair’ together.
About 200 Korean enterprises and 70 foreign enterprises are expected to participate and about 300 foreign buyers will be invited to the international fair. Total expenditure for opening this event will be settled by national and provincial expenses that may sum up to about 1.8 billion won.
The actually place where the event will be held, the Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX) is currently under construction in Goyang and is expected to open in May next year and continuously develop the event into a world-famous specialized exhibition.
A government official of Gyeonggi-do says, “The effect of accumulating manufacturers of auto parts will improve competitiveness and increase exportation. The fair will take part as a sales accelerator to let the world know about the superiority of automobile components manufactured in Gyeonggi-do.”
