Indebted by the Korean culture, Gyeonggi-do is advertising it’s charming publicity tourism commercial towards Guangdong TV in Guangdongsheng, China, in order to actively attract Chinese tourists, and form a successful ‘Visit Gyeonggi-Korea 2005’ atmosphere, and also to foster a Gyeonggi-do tour boom in China’s leading tour market, which local reports show affirmative responses.
Daytime channels of Guangdong TV shows updated programs on athletic and culture fields of Korea, which maintains an average viewing rate of 24.6% during hours from 18 to 21. The rate continues to grow in other parts of the country such as in Guangdongsheng, Hainan, Hunan, Jiangxi, Fujian and the Macao area of Hong Kong. This is a very large tour market of about 120 million that is about 2.5 times larger than the total population of 49 million in Korea.

Number of residents residing in Guangdongsheng takes up 6.7% (3rd in China) of China’s total population and demand for personal passports and overseas travel has rapidly increased by the simplification on issuing passports (estimation for Chinese foreign travelers till 2020 is 100 million). Chinese interest in touring Southeast Asian countries has decreased due to the change of travel propensity and has inclined to Europe, America, Malaysia, the Philippines and other newly rising tourism vacationlands.
About 539 thousand (10.1%) Chinese has entered Korea in 2002 and this number has exceeded Americans of 459 thousand (8.6%) and Japanese 2.3 million (43.4%). Average age of Chinese tourists are from 30 (33.33%) to 40 (21.4%) and by targeting the Chinese tourism market, which pursue quality travel packages and diversified destinations, Gyeonggi-do has announced to focus on residents residing Guangdongsheng, China with a wage level of 12,700 Yuan.
The Gyeonggi-do government plans to make an agreement with Guangdongsheng, China on matters related with tourism and cooperation (‘03.10.20) and the effect of this agreement will boost development on tourism packages between the two provinces and also a plan to operate a special chartered airline for tourists.
