The construction project for the LCD Cluster that will connect from Paju to Pyeongtaek has started construction and is making rapid progress. Enforcement plans were approved after 7 months the industrial complex in Paju was appointed as the LG.Philips LCD complex. And following the initial digging on Feb. 21, actual groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Mar. 18. As well as the Sumitomo Corp., other top class LCD enterprises including Hoya and Okubo, have invested about 840 million dollars in Pyeongtaek, expected to create jobs for about 5 thousand unemployed. 

According to the provincial government on Feb. 24, the enforcement plan for the ‘Paju LCD Industrial Complex’ has already been approved last Feb. 21. 

After 7 months has pasted since the area was designated as an industrial complex, plans for the Poseung Complex in Pyeongtaek has advanced up to 13 years, Baran Complex in Hwaseong for 4 years and the Eoyeon•Hansan Complex in Pyeongtaek can move up the date by 2 years and 5 months. 

Accordingly, the completion of construction and also the initial operation is expected in June of 2005, which is shortened up to a year and a half than first planned. 

In Pyeongtaek’s case, the Gyeonggi-do mission headed by provincial governor, Hak-kyu Sohn, visited Japan from Jan. 16 to 19, and accomplished in inducing 5 major Japanese enterprises, Nitto (100 million dollars), Hoya (70 million dollars), NHT (60 million dollars), Alvac (20 million dollars), Okubo (6 million dollars), totaling investments of 256 million dollars into the Hyeongok Industrial Complex. In addition, Sumitomo Corp. (500 million dollars) will be moving into Poseung and Chisso (20 million dollars) is expected to move into either Hyeongok or Paju.
