With the plan for formation of the Tourist/Culture Complex in Goyang approved by the Ministry of Construction and Transportation on July 8, the work for the 300,000-pyeong (=990,000 m²) “Hallyu-wood” site in Goyang is expected to start this year.

The provincial office will set up the zoning plan for the project, make necessary approvals for implementation plans, select private contractor within the year, and commence the infrastructure work. Supply of land to the selected private contractor will be carried out early next year and positive efforts will be made for attraction of private capital, including those from foreigner investors, for lodging facilities, etc.

The provincial office will also push ahead with PR for the site, hold public hearings for constructive opinion and road shows for investors in July and August.

The project is also linked with the Government’s plan for supplementation of lodging facilities for tourists in Seoul and its vicinity, where 80% of foreign tourists stay as well as with the provincial office’s effort for improvement of the environment for tourist attractions.

It is also part of the effort made by the provincial office to establish a next-generation entertainment mecca, jumping on the Hallyu (the current boom for Korean cultures, particularly Korean films and dramas among Southeast Asians, Chinese and Japanese) bandwagon and attracting more foreign tourists and fully utilizing the nation’s cultures in the tourism industry.
