The 2005 DMZ Forum is being held on August 16 and 17 at the KINTEX in Goyang as part of the ongoing World Peace Festival hosted by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office and the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation.

Two U.S. celebrities, CNN Founder Ted Turner and U.S. House Armed Services Committee Vice Chairman Curt Weldon, are scheduled to attend the Forum, making a direct flight to Seoul on August 13 after visiting Pyongyang for discussion about ecology conservation in, and peaceful use of, DMZ.

Ted Turner will make a keynote speech at the Forum, reporting the result of his visit to North Korea and disclosing detailed project plans.

At the DMZ Forum, discussions on ecology conservation in DMZ and its peaceful use will be made, plus presentations made on “Protection of nature on Korean Peninsula, sustainable development, and durable peace” and “Cooperation between two Koreas for conservation of nature.”

The annual DMZ Forum, which was first held in 2003, is hosted by the provincial office out of a wish to transform DMZ from a symbol of confrontation and division to that of peace and nature conservation.
