Kanagawa Scholarship Recipients from Gyeonggi-do Found Active in Society; 2 Students Selected for the Benefit This Year
Past recipients of Kanagawa Scholarship, which is a cooperative business jointly promoted by Gyeonggi-do and Kanagawa of japan, are found active in much renowned research institutions. 2 students – Woo Hyeon-jae (25, junior in Kyonggi University) and Hwang Su-yeong (21, junior in Ajou University) – left for Japan on September 20 after selected as this year’s recipients.
Kanagawa International Scholarship is offered to student residing in overseas sister areas such as Gyeonggi-do with little means to support their study in Japan. 2 students are selected every year to be sponsored all costs of education and living expenses by Kanagawa provincial government with an aim to facilitate development of the health and welfare sector. The program is also designed to heighten mutually beneficial relationship between different areas.
The first recipient of the program Seo Hye-jeong (37, Graduate School of Keio University) from 1993 is currently working in the Samsung Electronics Technology Research Center. Shim Sun-seop (34, Graduate School of Kanto Gakuin University) from the 1995 program and Lee Gye-san (36, Graduate School of Keio University) from the 1996 program are research director at Kukdong corporation and employee of the KDDI in Japan, respectively.
This year’s scholarship recipients will receive intensive language training for 6 months. Once they pass the EJU in the coming November and admissions exam into the Health and Welfare College of Kanagawa University in February 2006, they will enroll to the university to study physiology and social welfare for 4 years until March 2010.
Gyeonggi-do has selected 2 students who wish to study abroad from universities inside the province to recommend to the program. Recipients Woo Hyeon-jae and Hwang Su-yeong said that they want to contribute to advancement of the sector by helping the people in need using the knowledge and experience gained in Japan as they expressed their delight for taking part in Kanagawa International Scholarship program.
A provincial official from Gyeonggi-do stated that the program was changed to support 2 students among 6 students recommended by the governments of Gyeonggi-do, Liaoning from China, and Penang from Malaysia. It was very fortunate that both students recommended by Gyeonggi provincial government were selected to the program to become resourceful persons for Gyeonggi-do and Korean society.
Gyeonggi-do has pushed forward with civil officer exchange, sports youth exchange, and joint research works to heighten the relationship with Kanagawa Province since the two signed a sisterhood agreement in April 1990.
