– On October 5, Gyeonggi and South Chungcheong Provincial Offices held a joint explanatory meeting for 70 people from 50 businesses at the Steigenberg Hotel in Hamburg, Germany.

– The session was part of the mutually cooperative efforts made by the two provincial offices to expand their existing hi-tech industry (such as carmaking and display) clusters.

– At the session, the delegation stressed the fact that the two provinces offer well-arranged infrastructure as regions close to Seoul and various incentives for foreigner investors as well as advantageous geographical locations along the West Coast for those interested in doing business with China. They expressed the wish to attract IT and automotive parts businesses, which are core strategic businesses for the two provinces.

– 50-plus German manufacturers boasting leading technological prowess in hi-tech sectors attended the explanatory session. They are known to be positively interested in making forays into Asia, including Korea, where economy is making rapid progress.

– Following the session, the delegation met with those from six businesses that expressed interest in particular areas in the two provinces, giving them more specific investment-related information.

– The focus of the explanatory session was made on attraction of carmaking and display businesses into large clusters extending in the two clusters.

– Officials concerned said that they expected to be able to make up for what either province lacks through mutual cooperation as in such a joint explanatory session. Taking one thing for example, Gyeonggi is subject to the current regulations over industrial facilities in Seoul and its vicinity, whereas South Chungcheong is not affected by such regulations. Thus, the two provinces will be able to find many areas in which they can cooperate with each other.
