According to the data concerning the trends for finance and economy in provinces in 2005 announced by the Bank of Korea, Gyeonggi Province alone accounted for 67.6% of the portion of the increase in production in the nation’s manufacturing sector.

In production in the manufacturing sector, Gyeonggi Province posted a 19.9% year-on-year increase, three times the national average (6.4%), on the back of the brisk business in the sectors of semiconductor, audio/visual/telecom devices and cars.

Looking at the nation’s foreign trade statistics for 2005 announced by the KITA (Korea International Trade Association), exports from the province increased by 19.8% year on year, compared to the national average (12.0%), ranking the No.1 in contributions made by provinces and metropolises with 30.1%.

As for jobs created, the province accounted for 56.8% of the entire jobs created in 2005 with 170,000 out of the 299,000 nationwide. Even in the preceding year, the province accounted for more than half of the jobs created nationwide.

Commenting on the statistics, a Gyeonggi Provincial official said, “In addition to the briskness in exports of telecom devices and cars, the Provincial Office has made continued efforts to attract foreign hi-tech businesses’ investment, foster conditions conducive to business activities and create more than one million jobs. The statistics show that such efforts starts bearing fruit.”
