Exhibition of relics owned by families of the greatest Silhak scholars
– Groundbreaking ceremony was held at Dasan Historic Site in Neungnae-Ri, Joahn-Myun, Namyang-Ju on May 17 (Wed.) at 4PM.
– At 3 o’clock, as a pre-opening event, a collection of relics possessed by descendants of Park, Jiwon and Choi, Hanki was released for exhibition.
– The very first museum themed by Silhak or practical learning and a highly respectful Silhak museum in East Asia!
– Various cultural events such as Chwitadae, known as the Korean traditional orchestra and Jigyung Dajigi, known as the traditional game and many other SYSOP events using Geojunggi, the crane made by Dasan!
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government and the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation opened a groundbreaking ceremony on May 17 at 4 pm for Silhak Museum as one of their program to inherit Gyeonggi’s cultural identity.
Further on passing Gyeonggi’s cultural identity, Silhak Museum will become the international historical museum by becoming the hub of Silhak studies in East Asia, presenting the themes of Silhak originated from Gyeonggi to the Silhak traditions of China and Japan.
At the ceremony, various events symbolizing the historical importance of Silhak Museum such as the performance of Chwitadae, the Korean traditional orchestra, Jigyung Dajigi that is known as the Korean traditional game and many other SYSOP events using Geojunggi, the crane made by Dasan, were available.
15 precious representative relics of Silhak such as Yolha-Ilgi , Gwajungrok, Pyunghoneui, Junbak, Junhoku and etc. given by the descendents of Yonam Park, Jiwon and Hyegang Choi, Hanki with other relics donated by Japan were exhibited prior to the official ceremony.
Silhak Museum, groundbreaking today, was approved for its construction site at Neungnae-Ri, Joahn-Myun, Namyang-Ju in May 2004 and completed its plan and designs of exhibition and structure last August thru the Public Design Competition.
The presence of renowned Japanese Silhak scholar Gojima Yasnori from International Christian University and Gomuro Masamichi, the professor of Hukukawa Yukichi Research Center of Keio University who has committed to donate relics in today’s event added significant meanings to the establishment of Silhak Museum.
