Landfills to transform into theme parks in 2012
Gyeonggi province reported that 32 landfills in the province will be transformed into great parks providing excellent resting places to the local such as sports fields, theme parks and etc.
Most of landfills out of its use, which have been left neglected being in a great distance from the residential area, has recently come up on the table for the development since they became much closer to the residential areas after the enormous city development plans accomplished.
For more efficient use of neglected land and provision of great local life to citizens, the province decided to re-dress such land into a them park. The landfills used to be acknowledged as an unpleasant land transformed into soccer field, baseball ground, basketball court, Jokku field, skating field, and etc. is now appeared to be the most proud attraction of the province.
Gyeonggi province, investing KRW49.6 billion, has been developed the land of 250,000 pyong in Anyang, Uijeongbu, Yeoju, Guri, Gapyeong, and etc. and re-dressed them into 13 sports parks, 6 theme parks, 20 environment study fields, and etc. Within those various parks and fields, there are soccer field, baseball ground, basketball court, badminton field, skating field, and etc. letting many sports lovers enjoy the facilities.
Theme park providing promenades, resting places, green lands and other various convenient leisure use facilities has succeeded in deriving local’s interests. Environment change from a rubbish mountain to a great leisure land is so great making people to doubt that whether the place once really was the place littered with rubbish.
Seoksu Sports Park, which is opened in last May in Anyang with KRW23.7 billion of investment for 23,000 pyong, is consisted with skating field, badminton field, sports complex, playground, eco-pond, outdoor entertainment stage and many other cultural facilities. Also their huge parking lot capable of taking 240 units of cars attracts approximately 2,000 locals every weekend.
No more than a few years ahead, Seoksu Sports Park was known to be the most ugly spot in Anyang with mountains of household refuse that are piled since 1980’s. But today, the place has completely changed for the great resting and natural recreational park for children, teenagers and adults.
In addition to the parks and fields already transformed themselves from the waste, Gyeonggi province plans to have more green parks and resting facilities for the better life of citizens; Till 2007, KRW25.6 billion will be invested into the total 60,000 pyong sized land of 6 regions such as landfills at Jumdong-Myeon of Yeoju, Sano-Dong of Guri and etc. to build more sports complexes. Even after 2007, many other sports parks and them parks sized with 180,000 pyong will be created out of landfills of Ansan, Paju, Namyangju, and etc.
“Upon our plan, we will be able to enjoy theme parks and sports parks sized upto 500,000 pyong that are transformed from 32 landfills. And people will enjoy and make the most use of new parks when it once was only recognized as a waste.” said the official from the Gyoenggi province.
