Gyeonggi Province opens the “Gyeonggi Provincial Government Cherry Blossom Family Festival” from April 5 to 12.
The festival, which is held in the midst of 200 just-blossoming cherry blossom trees near the provincial government building, will offer a variety of colorful events from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on a daily basis.
Gyeonggi Province has prepared various events for residents coming to the Cherry Blossom Festival to enjoy, including cultural events such as a free public performance of Gag Station, a magic show, B-boy dancing, and many other events to experience, such as a free health program, pottery & Korean paper making, and face painting.
In addition, Gyeonggi Province plans to present a festival offering things to “see, eat, and enjoy”through a variety of events, such as an exhibition and sale of traditional rice cake, multicultural guesthouse for foreign residents, exhibition and sale of outstanding craftwork, and a sampling corner of agricultural and stockbreeding products.
For visitors coming at night, Gyeonggi Province has installed lights around the cherry blossom trees, presenting a “graceful and fascinating nighttime view of the cherry blossoms.”
The “Anabada (Korean word newly coined to represent saved, shared, exchanged, and recycled items)” marketplace will open during the Cherry Blossom Festival as well.
At the Anabada marketplace, held for 6 days from April 6 to 11 at the provincial office building grounds, various items donated by office employees such as clothes, books, stationeries, flowers, kitchen utensils, and other personal collections will be on sale.
Anabada marketplace will be joined by “Beautiful Store,” a foundation leading recycling and donation campaigns through promoting recycling and 1% donation, which will be in charge of the exhibition and sale of items.
Gyeonggi Province has been receiving donations from public officials since March 19 to prepare items for the Anabada marketplace, and the total profits from sales will be donated to the “Beautiful Store.”
On the 13th, Yoo Hyeong-su at the General Affairs Department said, “The festival will serve as a venue for area residents and the administrative office to enjoy together, and I hope it will serve as an opportunity where residents can feel as if they were at a comfortably warm banquet house, and feel a sense of unity with the community.”
Gyeonggi Provincial Government Cherry Blossom Family Festival, which has been held 21 times, is a representative spring welcoming festival joined by many area residents. In 2006, 170,000 visitors have come to feel the harmonious and festive mood of this event, and this year’s event is expected to be even more of a success.
