Deputy Governor of Gyeonggi Province Won You-cheol promises a tailored investment system considering the Korea-USA FTA

Renowned international companies, including the German global chemical company BASF and British high-end automobile company Rolls Royce, are paying keen attention to the investment environment of Gyeonggi Province.
On June 14th, a “Get to Know Korea” seminar hosted by “KWC (Korea Wisemen’s Club)”, an organization of foreign investors operating in Korea and a Gyeonggi investment PR session were held in the Kotra’s IKP (Invest Korea Plaza), in Yeomgok-dong, Seoul.
70 foreign investors and officials from international companies that are investing in Korea, such as BASF and Rolls Royce, had an opportunity to listen to detailed reports regarding the general status and investment environment of Gyeonggi Province.
Won You-cheol, the Deputy Governor of Gyeonggi Province, said, “Gyeonggi Province is the Asian base camp for investors who want to operate in Northeast Asia” adding “Gyeonggi Province is home to a cluster of IT and automobile companies such as Samsung Electronics, Hynix, KIA Motors, LG Electronics, and LG Philips LCD.”

Deputy Governor Won also said, “In terms of attracting foreign investment, Gyeonggi Province has signed over 120 investment agreements over the last 4 years, with international companies including 3M, Honeywell, Volvo, and Merck.”

Deputy Governor Won said, “To keep up with the changing situation, we will broaden the investment area from our current focus on the manufacturing sector, to encompass logistics, biotechnology, digital culture contents, and tourism” and added “Gyeonggi Province is committed to providing a customer-oriented, tailored investment environment by combining our expertise and capabilities with some specific incentives to attract investment.”
The Ambassador of the U.K. to Korea, Warwick Morris, also delivered a lecture, which was titled “Three Bites at the Korean Cherry: For Better or Worse.”
Ambassador Warwick Morris spoke on the development of the Korean economy since the 1970s, and encouraged foreign investors to pay more attention to the investment environment of Gyeonggi Province.
