Gyeonggi rice, famous for its delicious taste, will soon be pleasing people around the globe.

Gyeonggi Province held the “Gyeonggi Rice Export Ceremony” at the Rice Processing Complex (RPC) of Pyeongtaek Anjung Nonghyup on August 1, and announced it will be exporting Gyeonggi rice to established supermarkets in Chicago, Seattle, and Texas, following its first exports to Los Angeles in June.

When the demand for Gyeeongi rice from U.S. consumers reached a high level despite its expensive price, several executives including Lim Chang-yun, CEO of Pacific Giant, the buyer company from the United States, made a visit to Gyeonggi Province and expressed their interest in importing additional amounts.

The Gyeonggi rice that will be exported this time was produced at Anjung, Pyeongtaek, and will be exported under the brand ‘SUPER ONING,’ signifying its nature as an environmentally friendly farm product. Export volume amounts to 20 tons (250 sacks)

SUPER ONING rice is a high-quality rice that has been recognized as US No.1 class by the Overseas Marine and Cargo Inspection Corporation (OMIC), an international and certified inspection institution for export cargo, and was sold at the high price of 5,000 won/kg when it was first exported to the U.S.

This time, SUPER ONING rice will be sold at 2,800 won/kg, 5~6 times more expensive than international prices, which stand at 400~600 won/kg.

In addition, the Province is currently in negotiations with Russia, Switzerland, the Philippines, and Indonesia as well as the United States to increase rice exports.

The Province plans to gradually increase the export target by exporting 200 tons of rice abroad this year, 500 tons in 2008, and 1,000 tons in 2009.
