The Forbes Korea Excellence Award was jointly established by Forbes Korea and the Korean Society for Quality Management, with the goal of discovering and promoting best cases of quality management. This year marks the fifth anniversary of the award, and President Lee Soo-chang of Samsung Life Insurance (Leadership), GS Retail (Ethics Management), Lotte Shopping (Customer Satisfaction), Hanmi Pharmaceutical (LOHAS Management), and the Korea Minting & Security Printing Corporation (Knowledge Management) as well as Governor Kim were selected as this year’s prize winners. The awards ceremony will be held on September 5th at Yoengbin Hall in Shilla Hotel, Seoul.
Governor Kim is the first leader of a local government to ever be honored with this award.
Gyeonggi Province announced that Governor Kim had been named recipient of the award on August 28th, explaining that the customer-centric public service mindset of Governor Kim was highly recognized by judges.
The judges listed seven policies of Governor Kim as the reason for selecting him for the award. The policies include the integrated mass transportation charging system in the metropolitan area; the sale of cakes made from Gyeonggi rice at Starbucks stores; innovations in fire protection; the success of the world ceramic biennale; the expansion of speedy administration; the establishment of a quality investigation team for apartment buildings; and the management rationalization of Paju English Village.
