Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-soo, who is currently touring the United States, participated in an MOU signing ceremony with President Barry Leeds of Sigma Aldrich at New York’s Intercontinental Hotel on the 3rd (Korean time), which included an agreement to a 3-year 10 million dollar investment plan to build manufacturing facilities within the Jangan Industrial Complex of Hwaseong City.
Sigma Aldrich is a chemical compound production company that specializes in biochemical investigational drugs and chemical materials for use in semiconductors. The company employs 7,600 workers worldwide, and has annual revenues of KRW 1,800 billion.

After numerous consultations and discussions between Sigma Aldrich and the Province, the U.S. company decided on the Jangan Industrial Complex of Hwaseong City as the final target for investment.
This event will be an opportunity for Gyeonggi Province to supplement its relatively weak technology in the domestic semiconductor compound field, and will also enhance the competitiveness of domestic semiconductor companies, such as Samsung and Hynix.
Governor Kim remarked, “It is a great honor to have successfully concluded an investment MOU with a company that is as globally important as Sigma Aldrich. I am happy to welcome Sigma Aldrich’s investment, on behalf of the 11 million citizens of Gyeonggi Province.” He also promised to provide Aldrich with the utmost support, in order to assist Sigma Aldrich in making a successful investment in Gyeonggi Province.
Also on the same day at the same hotel, Governor Kim gave a presentation on the topic of “Investing in Gyeonggi Province”, for executives and CEOs of 10 New York based companies, including laser system and precision machine manufacturer GSI, solar power specialist company Evergreen Sola, GE, Hursh, and others.

It was thought that Governor Kim did an excellent job of explaining to the companies how the infrastructure, investment environment and incentive policies of Gyeonggi Province are well-established and are beneficial for future potential foreign investors.
The parties in attendance laid out many questions about foreign investment incentive policies and domestic investment trends, showing great interest in future investment possibilities.
