– Operation of non-step buses will be expanded to 19 cities in the province, and the number of non-step buses will be increased to 330 in 2008

Gyeonggi Province will introduce 125 new non-step buses with a floor height of 25cm to 40cm, which can be easily used by the physically handicapped, senior citizens, and the general public.

On February 11, 2008, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will add 125 new non-step buses to its fleet of buses. This decision reflects the positive response of the public to non-step buses, which are currently being operated in 15 cities of the province, including Suwon, Seongnam, and Bucheon.

The non-step buses to be introduced will be operated in Anyang, Pyeongtaek, Hwaseong, and Yangju, which currently do not have any non-step buses. When the new buses have been completely introduced by the end of 2008, the number of non-step buses operated in the Province will reach 330, and the operation area will include 19 cities.

Gyeonggi Province plans to replace 3,200 buses, which account for 40% of its total registered buses (8,041 units) with non-step buses by 2014.

The biggest benefit of non-step buses is that they feature a sloped entry to the bus, rather than steps. Passengers in wheelchairs or who are traveling with baby carriages can easily board and disembark from the bus without requiring the help of others, and senior citizens, children, and pregnant women also find the non-step buses more convenient to use.

In addition, the non-step buses have advanced devices to improve convenience for passengers, including automatic gear shifting and air-type suspension to fix the wheels to the body frame and prevent vibration of the car body, which is usually called a shock absorber. In addition, the new buses provide excellent driving quality, a high level of safety, and high eco-friendliness thanks to their low emission level.
