On February 13, 2008, USA Diving began training at the Sports Center of Suwon World Cup Stadium in preparation for the Beijing Olympic Games, which will be held in August 2008.

USA Diving has 22 members, and is led by Vice Chairman Bob Rydze of the USA Diving Federation. After completing the Korean training session on February 15, the team left for China to participate in the World Cup.

This visit was jointly organized by Gyeonggi Province and Korea Tourism Organization as a part of a strategy to attract overseas national teams for pre-training for the Beijing Olympic Games. It is expected that this visit of USA Diving will stimulate visits by many other overseas national teams to Gyeonggi Province, who can benefit from its proximity to Beijing and its well-equipped athletic infrastructure.

Gyeonggi Province is actively working to attract overseas national teams to use its soccer, hockey, badminton, and fencing facilities in six cities and guns including Suwon. Already, the Egyptian and Algerian national teams have committed to establishing training camps in Korea.

An official from Gyeonggi Province said, “As the overseas training of each of the national teams will be fully underway in April, when the competitors for the Olympic Games will be selected in each category, we plan to strengthen our efforts to attract overseas national teams by providing a range of services for the teams. This will be done in cooperation with related organizations in cities and counties, including the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Korea Tourism Organization, and the Gyeonggi-do Sports Council.”
