– Province to Make Donation at the Chinese Embassy in Seoul on May 19, 2008
Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-soo will donate USD 300,000 (KRW 315 million) to the central government of China at the Chinese Embassy in Korea on May 19, 2008, in order to help the victims of the earthquake that hit Sichuan on May 12.
Gyeonggi Province decided to make the donation in cash, as it would otherwise take longer to deliver humanitarian goods to the victims.
Governor Kim said, “The top priority should be rescuing the survivors. The province will review the plan to dispatch emergency staff and provide medical support if necessary.”
Gyeonggi Province donated KRW 210 million to the Louisiana State Government and to Korean residents in New Orleans who were affected by the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina on August 31, 2005. The province also dispatched 110 workers and donated medicines worth KRW 700 million to help Iraqi refugees on April 21, 2003.
