– The Hospital Will Provide Quality Healthcare Services to the 3 Million Residents of the Southwest Gyeonggi Area –

Gyeonggi Province (Governor Kim Moon-soo), Osan City (Mayor Lee Ki-ha), Seoul National University Hospital (President Sang-cheol Seong), and Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (President Kang Heung-sik) signed an MOU for the establishment of Seoul National University Osan Hospital at Osan City Hall on May 28, 2008.

The hospital will be built at 256 Naesammi-dong of Osan City, Gyeonggi Province

, on a 94,673 site, and will accommodate 600 beds. It will be funded with an investment of KRW 174 billion, and will provide comprehensive public healthcare services in Southwest Gyeonggi Province.

The MOU for the establishment of the Seoul National University Osan Hospital is particularly meaningful in that Seoul National University Hospital, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, Gyeonggi Province, and Osan City have now reached a shared understanding. As Osan, Pyeongtaek, Hwaseong, and Anseong are being rapidly developed, the healthcare facilities in the region have been unable to keep pace with the rapid population influx. In addition, with the accelerated aging of Korean society, there has been a growing need for public healthcare services that will protect and promote public health and support the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of serious diseases.

Gyeonggi Province pledged its active support for the construction of the hospital, its active work in the attraction of investment including the plan to finance construction with foreign investment, and to continuously cooperate with the hospital in the attraction of leading domestic and overseas medical and R&D facilities to the province.

– Osan City will provide financial support for the hospital site and urban planning, and administrative support for infrastructural elements such as roads, waterworks, sewage, power, and communications facilities.
– Seoul National University Hospital and Seoul National University Bundang Hospital will establish and operate the 600-bed hospital.

When established, the Seoul National University Osan Hospital will provide the 3 million citizens of Osan and Southwest Gyeonggi Province with the highest quality of healthcare services.
– The hospital will narrow the regional gap in the quality of healthcare services by providing premium public healthcare services, and will contribute to the stimulation of joint research between industry, academia, and research institutes.
– In particular, as many residents of Gyeonggi Province currently go abroad or visit larger cities such as Seoul for better-quality healthcare services at lower costs, the establishment of the hospital will contribute to the stimulation of the local economy and the development of a new growth engine industry, in which the tourism industry is combined with a globally competitive healthcare industry.

* Number of jobs to be created: More than 1,700 (Including doctors, nurses, and administrative staff)

A spokesperson for the province said, “Gyeonggi plans to attract world-leading specialized health care facilities to the Yellow Sea Free Economic Zone (Poseung, Pyeongtaek), to provide foreign residents working in the region with a premium living environment. This move will stimulate the attraction of foreign investment, and vitalize the local economy.”
