The Algerian Team, which will be participating in the 29th Beijing Olympic Games between August 8 and 24, 2008, will be making a final push to prepare through field training in Suwon.

The team is made up of 57 athletes who are competing in 6 different events, including women’s volleyball, rowing, table tennis, swimming, judo, and boxing. From July 15 to August 5, forty-seven members of the team, representing all of the 6 events except boxing, will undergo field training at Suwon Stadium, Gyeonggi Physical Education High School, Singal Reservoir, and the Training Center of the Hyundai Greenfox Women’s Volleyball Team.

Located at the nexus of the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, Algeria is gaining recognition for its enormous potential as an export and investment market. Since relations between Korea and Algeria were developed into a strategic partnership in 2006, both nations have been actively pursuing cooperation in a range of sectors including new city development, electronics, and IT.

Gyeonggi Province has been actively working to attract foreign athletic teams for field training ahead of the Beijing Olympic Games, leveraging advantages such as its proximity to Beijing, the excellent skills of its athletes, and its ample sports infrastructure. The US Diving Team went through field training in Gyeonggi Province in February 2008, and numerous other Olympic teams have followed suit, including Spain’s Taekwondo Team, the UK’s Disabled Archery Team, Canada’s Taekwondo Team, and Indonesia’s Archery Team.

Currently, 7 members of the Afghan Taekwondo Team are participating in training in Pocheon, and the US Synchronized Swimming Team is scheduled to undergo training at the Suwon World Cup Stadium from August 9 to 15, 2008, affirming the popularity of Gyeonggi Province in global sports circles as a favorable field training spot for the Beijing Olympic Games.
