On May 18, Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-Soo visited the grave of the late Park Gwan-Hyeon during a visit to Gwangju to mark the 19th anniversary of the May 18th Democratic Uprising

After attending the commemorative ceremony, Governor Kim prayed at the grave of Patriot Park in the National Cemetery for the May 18th Democratic Uprising and expressed his condolences to Park’s sister, Park Haeng-Sun.

The late Park Gwan-Hyeon, who served as the Chairman of the Student Association of Chonnam National University during the democratic uprising, died in Gwangju Prison in 1982. Governor Kim himself was locked up for ten months in 1987 in the same cell where the late Park stayed.

Governor Kim said, “I heard a lot about Patriot Park from prison officers. He will stay young forever as he died young. The sacrifices of the citizens of Gwangju and South Jeolla Province during the May 18th Democratic Uprising paved the way for the democratic development of the nation.”

Park Haeng-Sun said, “would like to extend my gratitude to Governor Kim for visiting my brother’s grave.”

Governor Kim also visited the Yuyoung Enshrinement Hall and the Memorial Hall of the National Cemetery, and met members of organizations related to the May 18th Democratic Uprising.
