Gyeonggi Province is holding the “June 25 60th Anniversary Special Exhibition: Memorandum 1950′” in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of June 25 – the date that marked the beginning of the Korean War – at the Paju Imjingak Gyeonggi Pyeonghoa Center, a symbol of division and peace on, this coming June 19.
This special exhibition held under the martial concept of ‘Unforgettable Memories and Eternal Records’ depicts the suffering of the Korean during the 3 years of hostilities during the Korean War. It features figures of soldiers who fought in the war as well as the war¡¯s remnants as seen in broken and demolished shapes.
During this exhibition – held in the Imjingak Gyeonggi Pyeonghoa Center, a site of North and South division – there will be a display of over 400 items including June 25 war photographs from domestic and international war correspondents, civilian diary extracts and relics from the daily lives of refugees, U.S soldier artifacts and documents, and other June 25-related relics and materials which have become iconic.
Together with the various displays, videos about the Heungnam retreat, June 25 combat and the Jangdan Station steam engine will be screened. One corner has been prepared for songs of that time under the theme of ¡®Division, War and Farewell’ and includes such compositions as ‘Goodbye, 38 Line’, ‘Serenade at the Frontline’, and ‘Saving My Husband.’
In addition, the Pyeonghoa Concert will be held at an outdoor venue from 6:30 p.m. on June 19th and feature the Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra (conducted by Geum Nan Sae) as well as renowned singers and Korean/U.S military personnel.
This exhibition was jointly planned by the Gyeonggi-do Museum and Hosanbang Rare Books, hosted by Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation, and supported by Paju City, the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization and the Korea Railroad Corporation (Seoul Branch). The exhibition begins this June 19 will run until August 15.
