Korea’s Largest Automobile Parts Exhibition, KOAA Show 2010, Opens on November 18th

Korean Auto Part Makers Have Opportunity to Open Overseas Markets

A Dressed-up Cars Contest Opens

The Korea Auto-Parts and Accessories Show (KOAA Show), which runs from November 18 to 20 in the Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX) located in Goyang City, showcases the present and future of the Korean auto parts industry.

This exhibition is organized by Gyeonggi Provincial Government and sees participation by a total of 370 automakers or auto part makers including 52 overseas businesses, 1,600 overseas buyers and 30,000 Korean enterprisers.

The product consulting meetings, which started with 84 overseas businesses in 2008, have expanded. Last year, 225 businesses took part and 370 are scheduled to participate this year; this is expected to be a great boon for the export of Korean auto parts.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government invited approximately 300 overseas buyers to the conference room in the exhibition center, where they had one-on-one talks with about 1,000 Korean auto part makers. In particular, world-renowned car makers such as Ford, Audi-Volkswagen, Benz-Daimler, Peugeot-Citroen and Nissan are slated to participate in the meeting, and thus Korean auto part makers have very high expectations. Moreover, the purchasing agents of world-renowned auto part makers and distributors such as Magna, TRW, Aisin, SMP and Halford are expected to participate, and thus many contracts are anticipated.

One buyer, who participated in the consulting meetings last year, said, “Participating in KOAA Show was a good chance for me to identify new auto part makers. Korean-made auto parts are the world’s best.”

During this period, AIN Global plans to train Korean engineers in advanced electric cars in cooperation with SAE International, which has a history of one hundred years. On November 19th, a seminar will be held on the technical aspects of electric cars and the outlook for the electric car industry in which Korean and overseas car experts and 5 professors will take part. Particularly noteworthy is that an official of Nissan Motor plans to deliver a lecture on the present state of Japan’s electric cars and their future plans, which is expected to receive considerable attention.

A dressed-up cars contests will be held this year in which approximately 50 tuned cars will be exhibited. The best car will be determined by visitor vote.

A provincial official said, “Gyeonggi Province has 1,079 automobile-related businesses which employ 64,000 people. It is therefore accurate to say that Gyeonggi Province is the capital of Korea’s car industry. Actually, our province accounts for 23% of Korea’s car industry. I expect that this exhibition will contribute greatly to opening overseas markets and developing technologies.”
