Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo returned from his four-day mission to China and the Philippines on the 28th of June. He secured investment for the construction of a major shopping mall in China and exported Gyeonggi Province’s superior mass transportation system to the Philippines, thereby affirming his role an active primary industry promoter during the four-day trip.
Governor Kim signed an MOA with Hong Kong’s King Power Group and Korean distributor Shinsegae to build a new-concept shopping complex. The project has reeled in USD 8.6 million, including direct foreign investment of USD 2.5 million. The complex, which will be a combination of shopping, entertainment, and resort, situated near Misari Motorboat Racing Park in Hanam, is scheduled to open by 2014.
The complex has been tentatively named Hanam Union Square, and will be ten times the size of the Premium Outlets in Yeoju and Paju. It will include two upscale department stores complete with entertainment facilities.
After successfully acquiring sufficient capital in China, Governor Kim agreed to export Gyeonggi Province’s transportation system by signing a cooperation consent protocol with Manila’s Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA). The system will be adopted to Manila in the near future.
Entirely based on IT technology, the bus system will be equipped with card readers to record transfers. The Philippines will have an advanced Bus Management System (BMS) and Bus Information System (BIS) in the larger metropolitan area. They will import Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and a state-of-the-art transportation card system, and construct the bus terminal.
Governor Kim held seminars and meetings throughout this overseas mission. During his speech on Korea-China relations at Tsinghua University, he stated that North Korea must ensure China in opening its market. He met congressmen and the Mayor of Manila in person for the benefit of Korean companies that are based in the Philippines. He also visited the immigration office and English education centers to promote safety among Korean students and called for more administrative support.
Governor Kim stated that: “We have promoted our ground-breaking shopping mall in China, and soon the Philippine’s transportation system will be revolutionized by our general transfer system. Gyeonggi Province will continue to reach for new horizons in the manufacturing, culture, art, transportation, and other service industries by expanding abroad.”
