The free legal consultation service provided by Gyeonggi Province and J&P Law Group LLC has turned out to be very popular.

Introduced on January 13, the program has helped 653 people at 19 different Multi-cultural Family Support Centers (as of June). Four hundred and fifty-five people participated in legal education courses and 198 received private consultations.

Sojourn qualifications and naturalization were the most common subjects of the consultations, followed by family troubles and children. One hundred and sixty-three sojourners were in Korea through marriage and six were foreign laborers, in addition to thirty others.

The local government announced the above achievements on July 14th, adding that the legal services and courses will be available in the western part of the province later this year.

On the same day, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government divided the legal consultation group into two groups and dispatched them to the Multi-cultural Family Support Centers in Ansan and Gimpo between 10:00 and 13:00, and to those in Siheng and Bucheon between 15:00 and 18:00.

Anyone is welcome to utilize the service, including immigrants by marriage, members of multi-cultural families, foreign workers, and foreign students.

Multicultural Family Division Director Kim Bok-un said, “The complementary legal consultation service will become more widely available in the near future. We are considering more programs aimed at promoting family harmony as we receive so many requests for counseling from families in conflict. Our goal is to help these families live more harmoniously.”
