Gyeonggi Province (Governor Kim Moon-Soo) is rolling up its sleeves to export more Gyeonggi-grown organic vegetables around the world.

The provincial government and the Gyeonggi Green & Agriculture Foundation moved the first Gyeonggi Superior Foods Center, which opened in Shanghai in March of last year (at the Nongshim Mega Mart, ZhongShan Road, Xuijaijui), to Shin Gubei Road in Changning, an upscale, largely expatriate district, on July 29. It also opened a second branch on HongQuan Road in Minhang.

First Food Center to move to independent store in high-end expat residential area

The first Gyeonggi Superior Foods Center enjoys sales of over KRW 100 million per month. Thanks to its success, it has moved to a busier central area with a 25 square meter wide venue dedicated only to Gyeonggi produce.

Gubei of Changning in Shanghai is located near an international club and a high-end residential area bustling with locals and expats. As the Korean, Japanese and USA embassies are also located nearby, many embassy workers and employees reside in the area, which should have a promotional effect.

Second Food Center to open in Shanghai’s largest Korean district… featuring teas and Korean sweets

The new Food Center in Minhang is located within Galleria Mart, the area’s largest distribution center, in the heart of the largest Korean district in Shanghai. A 25 square meter area has been dedicated solely to the Food Center, which is expected to target affluent people who are keen on health foods.

Chairman Min Ki-won of the Gyeonggi Green & Agriculture Foundation said: “China is no stranger to a Westernized diet. More people are turning to processed foods. In sync with the local trend, most of the products available here are Gyeonggi Province’s flavored dried seaweed, sauces, drinks, and health foods.”

The second Food Center will focus on beverages such as tea, mineral water, makgeolli, soju, and wine, and on a wide selection of processed foods including flavored dried seaweed, rice cakes, kimchi, traditional sauces, Korean sweets, rice cookies, snacks, mushrooms, and noodles. Ginseng products will also be for sale.

Special promotion at 1st and 2nd Food Centers between July 29 and August 11… sample foods and drinks galore!

The provincial government and Gyeonggi Green and Agricultural Center to celebrate opening of new branch and relocation from July 29 to August 11

During the special event, local customers will have a chance to sample a wide variety of foods and beverages while enjoying interesting performances. Makgeolli, tea, flavored dried seaweed, rice cakes, and Korean sweets will be served, and the popular television star Yoon Yong Hyun from the SBS series Giant will be present for a signing event. There will be traditional Korean games to enjoy as well.

Three hundred selected VIP customers will be given a tea set, a trip to Gyeonggi Province, and other Korea-related gifts.

Gyeonggi Makgeolli to step up the game… soon to be exported

Owing to popular demand all over the world, Gyeonggi Province has decided to improve the quality of its makgeolli and boost its export volume.

The provincial government and the Foundation will host promotional events in Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, and Singapore from July 22 to July 31 to promote makgeolli and boost exports.

The promotional events will be held in eight outlets and six restaurants in Malaysia, four locations in Indonesia, one location in Australia, and two outlets in Singapore.

The promotional event in Malaysia will also include a presentation meeting for major local distributors.

Gyeonggi Province plans to tie the overseas boom in Korean pop culture with its makgeolli products for more effective promotion, with the ultimate goal of making it a key export. The provincial government has prepared various symposiums for scholars, business people, college students, and general consumers to promote Gyeonggi Makgeolli and create a differentiated brand awareness among potential buyers.
