On November 3, Gyeonggi Province announced that it has been recognized as the best institute in the second phase (2011 to 2014) evaluation of community social welfare plans conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
The community social welfare plan is an official plan designated by the Social Services Act. Each local government establishes the plan by reassessing the local community’s needs and resources every four years.
The Community Social Welfare Plan of Gyeonggi Province was established by the Gyeonggi Welfare Foundation during a total of 56 working-level adjustments and discussions conducted from September 2009 to the beginning of this year.
Under Gyeonggi’s vision of ‘providing care to open the future of welfare in Korea’, the plan was drawn up with a view to achieving tailored welfare services, convergence welfare services, innovative welfare services, and sharing welfare services.
In particular, attention has been drawn to major issues related to the aging population, the low birth rate, the region’s imperfect welfare delivery systems, the low employment rate, dense metropolitan population concentration, urbanization, and diverse economic problems.
The welfare plan of Gyeonggi Province scored higher points in the evaluation because its detailed plan has proper objectives, notable performance competence, and excellent examples in terms of the diverse issues facing economically challenged citizens, senior citizens, the disabled, teenagers and youth, women, multicultural families, and North Korean defectors.
The awards ceremony will be held in tandem with the 2011 Welfare Policy Evaluation of Local Governments at the President Hotel on October 18.
