Governor Kim visits embassies and delivers USD 100,000 to each country on November 8th

Gyeonggi Province delivered relief funds to Turkey and Thailand, countries suffering from enormous natural disasters including earthquakes and flooding.

Governor Kim Moon-soo of Gyeonggi Province visited the Embassy of Turkey and the Embassy of Thailand on November 8th and delivered USD 100,000 in relief funds to each.

A provincial official said, “Both countries are friends and allies from the Korean War. We maintain continuous, economic and cultural collaborative relations.” He explained, “Gyeonggi Province and Istanbul Province of Turkey are working on a friendly cooperation agreement, and half of the Thais living in Korea reside in our province. We decided to aid them as we have a deep relationships with the two nations.”

The province provided KRW 20 million worth of aid to Indonesia when it suffered from an earthquake and hail in 2005, and USD 200,000 dollars to Louisiana in the US in the aftermath of a devastating hurricane the same year. In 2008, Sichuan Province of China was the recipient of USD 300,000 in aid from Gyeonggi Province following a deadly earthquake. Also, the province delivered USD 100,000 in response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake and USD 1 million dollars following the recent earthquake in Japan.

In Turkey, the recent earthquake resulted in 3,000 dead or injured citizens and 700,000 refugees. Unprecedented flooding in Thailand resulted in 500 deaths and 720,000 people suffering from injuries and illnesses. They are in desperate need of international help.
