Gyeonggi Province announced on April 18 that it will hold the 2nd Nationwide Multi-Cultural Family Choir Competition at Dalmaji Hall of the Ansan Arts Center on June 3.

To be eligible for the competition, teams must consist of one to five families from around the nation, and may include direct family members and first cousins of immigrants by marriage.

Each team participating in the competition should include at least one immigrant by marriage, and additional points are given if three generations participate in the competition.

Teams with a winner from previous competitions or a member who has produced a music album cannot participate in the competition.

Each of the fifteen teams that advance to the final will receive one of the following cash awards and a plaque: One best team (KRW 3 million); one excellent team (KRW 2 million); three encouragement teams (KRW 1 million); five winning teams (KRW 500,000); five participation teams (KRW 300,000).

Both Korean and overseas songs will be accepted. The review criteria will include vocals, harmony, expressive ability, and audience response.

Applications will be accepted in person or by e-mail (song2012@kg21.net) or postal mail between April 25 and May 4. The application form and documentary evidence of multicultural family status must be submitted.

Preliminary contests will be held at 2pm on May 13 at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex, but video entries may also be submitted by email by May 4 (song2012@kg21.net).

Gyeonggi Province’s Multicultural Family Division Manager Kim Gwan-soo said, “This competition is being staged to increase public interest in and warm acceptance of multicultural families, and to help establish a more harmonious social atmosphere.” He added, “We plan to hold this choir competition every year”.

This competition is sponsored by the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
